So I'm wanting to get rid of the hideous looking front plate bracket that most of our dealerships put on.
What has everyone done with aftermarket brackets or should I remove it and screw the slimline plate straight to bumper?

Want that flush clean look.

Lakin brackets in Tasmania make a decent product although not cheap. I have them and they work well. Currently they are closed due to lack of parts because of covid. Prior to these I had cheap King Pin plastic brackets which are available from Autobarn. They are effective and do much the same job.

I just screwed the plate onto the bumper, and clipped the slimline plate cover on. It isnt flush at each end because of the curve of the bumper, but the upside was that it makes the clips easier to get on and off.

Fords of course
Firstly I left explicit instructions informing the dealership not to put those hideous brackets on. On pick-up I double sided tape them and when I got home a very carefully drilled and bolted the plates straight on. For the front plate I carefully bent it in the middle to follow the angle of the bumper.👍

While Joe Blogs with a Corolla might not notice it, but there is absolutely no excuse for that sort of sloppy workmanship. More to the point, why did the salesman not pick that up prior to it being shown to his/her customer.

That's basically what I did.

I mounted the plate with a couple of rubber grommets behind each screw to pack the plate forward a little bit to compensate for the angle in the bumper. I then used a clip on Altrex number plate protector to finish it off.

I ordered the Lakin brackets and the covers they supply too. Very nice quality but you pay for it. (Like anything) Cleaned and ceramic coated everything a few times, inside and out, including new number plates, and all seems to be going well so far. I’ll try to find the close up pics just after fitting and edit this post.

I will have more detailed fitting pics somewhere if you need them. Maybe even in a previous post in the Aus section somewhere.

Trigger warning ⛔. One pic, includes post driving 🐛

Lakin’s are up there with the best quality “mod” I have made to this car.

The car was "Detailed" prior to pickup.
Still had bugs on bonnet and headlights.
Dried "water marks" in the paint from not being dried properly.
Wheels had not been washed and were filthy.
Painted Rear Performance Spoiler had "Pimples" in the paint.
Interior was dirty, finger prints and smudges over the steering wheel and centre console.
Dirty "Work Boot" marks over the Kick Panels and Carpet.
Took it home, washed and detailed it myself.
Found scratches in the paint and stone chips.
Passenger Side Vent Trim is hanging loose.
Drivers Window Trim is damaged.

What do you expect for a $75,000 car from your local Ford Dealer.?
