Anyone on here ended up painting the chrome emblem black in the black grill? I imagine it does not come off to replace?

It does come of and it's not that difficult.
There are multiple places you can buy the front/rear pony painted any color you want or even lighted.
If you want to go the diy paint route I'd suggest scuffing up the chrome really well and use an etching primer.

So it looks like you would pry it off right behind the chrome part?

I pulled mine off and painted it - turned out well. We will see how long the paint holds up but for now - it looks great. If I were going to do it over, I would mask off everything and paint it on the car instead of pulling it off. I basically had to super glue it back on after I broke the tabs off to remove it...

I didn't say they were cheap, just that they are available.

You don't have to break the tabs off if you're willing to do what it takes to gain access to the back of the grill.

Not sure I'd glue them back on. 3M tape is how everything else is held to the outside of the car anyway.

Prep seems like it would be a pita if it's left on the car.

I taped it off and used plastidip spray. I did it to all the emblems. The 5.0s looked like crap so I bought black ones. The gt in the rear started chipping after a year so I replaced it too. Surprisingly the front pony still looks great after 2 plus years.

Right in the middle of doing it on car. No way I can get to back. Took the top plastic off and there is no room anywhere to get to it in back. Maybe it's a different setup on the pp2 car? Bigger radiator?

Nope, to do it "right" the bumper cover has to come off. I don't think it matters trim or options.
Since no one wants to go through all that everybody says to break the tabs and tape it on.
I'm kinda grateful that I like mine in chrome.
I did pop out the ponies on the wheel center caps and painted them to match the car. It's subtle but I like it.

You can get black front emblems off eBay for $10. Or any emblem for that matter. I've used them and they aren't any different than overpriced OEM.

Same here the front horse still going strong and wash it regularly... 18 months on plastidip... replaced the 5.0 and GT with black emblems from Amazon.
