Front curb camera

I am not up on the electronics of these new cars do you think there is a way of installing a second camera in the front? I had a Curb Alert system on my previous car and it worked, told you when you were about two feet from a curb but after seeing that view from the rear view camera a front view camera would be really nice.

You would need something like Sync Lockpick to do it. Not sure if they have one available for the 2015 Stang yet but there is another thread on this.

It would be nice to have. I was spoiled from my last car due to it having cameras all around giving a 360 view.

I clipped the front air dam several times on curbing. So I installed a front camera.

Wireless video cameras are available built into license plate frames (usually for RVs).
I bought one and replaced the front license plate frame. I spliced the camera power wire into the parking light wiring. The camera comes with a small 2 1/2" color receiver that plugs into the 'cigarette' socket. The camera has several small IR emitters for night time illumination but the camera is sensitive enough that the parking lights provide more than enough light.
Whenever I want to see what is in front I turn on the parking lights. The receiver is small enough to fit on the front of the shift console.
The 12V socket is only hot when the engine is running so the camera system doesn't deplete the battery.

On Saturday, I stopped at my dealer. They had a 2015 F150 pickup in the showroom.
It has a 360 degree camera setup. The camera view is selected through the MFT Sync screen. Does Ford use the same Sync system in all its vehicles? If so, I wonder how hard it would be to install a Ford 'replacement' camera on the front? Probably would need a Sync update to tell Sync that there is a second camera.

+1 Also interested in a camera for front end. But also interested if a 'switched' camera option might be available to add a second camera near the right front wheel for side curbs (I have a wife ;o).

2 Camera option bonus w/ Head Unit Upgrade

I am resolved to find a front camera solution!

I am considering an aftermarket stereo head unit to replace my Base 4.3" one. This option is much less attractive if you already paid for the OEM MFT screen radio.

I ran across this Pioneer this new Pioneer AVIC-8001NEX head unit. This 7" capacitive touch screen has RCA inputs for two cameras that you can toggle between!) Info on this thought here:

In looking for head unit upgrade ideas, the fact that this ones allows for two camera inputs is just an awesome bonus. The new in March 8001 may cost closer to $1,000 (than the current 8000 is running at $850 +/-). But the bonus of an awesome stereo, adding full Android interface, car data interface, great user interface AND dual camera feed into the in-dash screen, is significant for me. If I decide to go this route, I'll either have to do a DIY make it fit solution or wait until late in 2015 for a bezel kit to be created. More info at the link above.

The lockpic mytouchair system allows you to connect extra cameras to the stock radio... Not sure how good It might actually work and is rather expensive... Hopefully someone with more expendable income than myself will try it out and let us know if it's worth it... I created a thread in this subforum regarding the device.
