Seems like 2009 all over again. I order and take delivery of my 2010 Mustang in 2009 just to find out the new 5.0L that was rumored to come out in 2 years initially was confirmed for 2011 model year AFTER I took delivery.
Looks like your car hasn't even delivered yet... you could not buy the car and wait for 2016. I was for sure not going to get the premium trim, because of the Microsoft infotainment system.

Now I'm glad I waited and I'll get a premium 2016 if it has Sync 3. Also, Ford has a lot of new things coming up soon, since they recently announced their "Ford Performance" unit.

I kept clicking on that thinking it was a video, but really you just uploaded the preview picture... not sure if that was a deliberate ruse or not, lol.

What do you mean good news for early implementation? They are showing a preview version on a mocked up Mustang interior but it won't be available for any 2015 car or earlier. All different hardware.

This annoys me. The Sync system is really slow in this car. It may be an improvement over earlier versions, but it is still slow. Slow enough, that I feel the need to grab my phone and scroll through music by hand.

I bet you could just buy a new head unit in 2016 to get the sync 3. Its going to physically fit the car, although I dont know (and doubt) if the connectors match. Who knows, maybe Ford will make an adapter.

Yeah technically it SHOULD fit but no telling if it will and what wiring will be different. Everything I have read about it makes it seem like even a hardware upgrade would not be possible or would be financially restrictive/pointless.

Yeah Im sure the wiring wont be plug and play, but there are plenty of audio shops that could handle it.
As far as price restrictive goes, I guess that depends on your income. Some people wont blink twice at the cost, others wouldnt dream of it.
I just mentioned it as a possibility.

The question should be: Is Ford going the same way with Sync3(QNX) like Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler? I hope not! Why? The vehicles computer and software is in the radio. Therefore no "switch" to turn off the unit because it must run for the car. You can NOT buy aftermarket radios. You stuck with the radio. Do I change my radios? NO. I should be happy than? NO! Every time I drive the Jeep the radio starts right away playing radio were my wife left the car. That's annoying! When I start a car I like first to listen to the engine if everything sounds right.

Actually I was very happy with the backup camera in the Mustang. Clear nice picture. The Jeep community complains about the stuttering backup camera since the 2014 models came out.

So QNX is an 'improvement'? LOL. And nice that they ripped off the MS Modern style...
The MyFordTouch interface is designed by Ford regardless of what core OS runs beneath it. It's not a rip-off. If they choose to keep the layout and look of the current interface because it works, then they will. If they need to change it, they will. The core OS has nothing to do with the look and implementation.

If it does suck, it's NOT the fault of the core QNX OS capabilities.
QNX is the basis of many car infotainment packages. Some good, and some bad.

The good news is the OS has been around for ages and is rock solid and secure. More missions critical systems use this system than you know.
You WANT this OS to run your systems. You also HOPE the people programming for it know what they are doing.

Like a car, it can be more than capable. However the person driving it, may not be able to utilize it properly. Same rules apply.
We'll have to see how its implemented in the Ford SYNC3 system.

Nicely said...if it was really that bad.... why would auto makers like Audi utilize it for their infotainment and gauge clusters along with Audi connect and is better connectivity with todays smartphones and apps

I mean, anything's possible. But I'd suspect the cost to do this would be restrictive in that it would be cheaper to trade your car in and buy a new one.
the multiple electronics boxes would need to be replaced. all the wiring, the screen itself. and whatever audio shop you used would be flying blind and kill you on labor hours. I wouldn't want to make the mistake of guessing on a price, but these new systems make it way to difficult to do upgrade things on your own if you ask me.

It has awesome capabilities. It really does depend on how deep they plan on using it.

The really good news is that it's not only a microkernel real-time OS, but it is owned by Blackberry who built the PlaybookOS and BB10 smartphone OS's on this system. (old pre10 BB used BBOS). So they have a lot of experience with the end user interfaces and have married the 2 together.

I'm phone/tablet OS agnostic, I like them all for various reasons, so I don't want these posts to be a pissing match between vendors. Yes we all like what we like, and will argue will we're blue in the face on why one is better.

The potentially great news is how they can all function together with this system. So it won't matter what phone you have, they can all play well in the same sandbox.

All comes down to the execution. Here's hoping.
