Well I'm sure you've seen a Progressive insurance commercial where they have you plug in their device to your computer to monitor your driving habits.

They can only see certain recent things in the freeze data. They can see if you have used a tuner to change parameters.

Things like red lining, etc., will be seen if it creates a fault of some type. When the fault occurs, the ECU stores the freeze data for diagnostic purposes.

data is stored on a rolling clog. engine speed, temp, steering input. you name it, it is logged.

if you are in an accident, or cause an accident. the cops can supena that data. SUPPOSED to be locked down. But we know how that goes.
