I still think of myself as a Mustang newbie, having had my S197 for 6 years now.
It was my first Mustang, bought because it was the nearest thing to my first love, the European Capri. Ford bailed on the Capri in '87, and none of the replacements (Probe, Cougar etc) hit the spot. The Capri was supposed to be a slightly uncouth, RWD "hooligan" of a car. Think of it as a 7/10ths Mustang.
And the S197 was very similar in character. Perhaps not surprising given the similarities in their make up. I do love my S197 and want to keep it forever. And I want an '80s Capri to keep it company.
But time and technology move on. If Ford can produce a state of the art RWD coupe, but keep that all important character, they'll have a winner.
S550 would be the 3rd toy in my garage.
My BMW 330 can continue with the daily driving duties
Finally we will be able to buy a factory right hand drive Mustang in Australia :clap2::clap2: :hail::ford:
Can't wait for final Aussie specs and pricing. Already informed my dealer
of my intentions, he said get in the queue there will be a long waiting list:(
I'm not sure if I'd call myself a former owner, or a vet.
I grew up hearing stories about my dads 67 gt500 and became really interested in mustangs by about 6th grade. My first car was a 82 capri 5.0 HO 4 speed. Later in my mid 20's after college I had an 87 GT. These days I don't own a mustang, but we have about a dozen 65-70 shelbys and 3-5 cobras at our shop on any given day.
Its time for me to have my own mustang again. The old cars are awesome, but they are still mass produced 40 yr old cars and I think a lot of people without much hands on experience overly romanticize owning and driving them. I see, work on them and drive them all the time, and right now I don't have a whole lot of desire to have one of my own.
Now a brand new, world class mustang I can jump in with my wife (and future children?) and feel equally comfortable driving cross country, or ripping around road america… count me in. I've considered a terminator or a b302, but the 6g cars are the ones I have been holding out for.
