I hit the Remote Start this morning and the lights blinked and the horn sounded twice. No start. Same thing 2 more times.

I walked to the car and started it. Check engine light came on and stayed for the entire 22 mile drive. Turned the car off. Waited. Restarted. Light still on.

Not pleased.

Waiting on call back from dealer now to let me know when to be there.

Sounds like the doors weren't locked or something was open (trunk, door, etc).

Not sure about the check engine light.

On the way to the dealer, the light went off. So I hope it set a hard code.

However, they wanted to try the remote start. It would not start with remote when I headed to them. When we tried it at the dealer it DID start. But, it would not turn OFF!!!!

They had not seen this. So they gave me a new really huge F150 and the wait to see what is going on begins.

Summary: FORD: 2015 MUSTANG EQUIPPED WITH 5.0L TWIN INDEPENDENT VARIABLE CAM TIMING ENGINE WILL SHOW AN ILLUMINATED MIL *CN

Got the car back at the end of the day. Dealer says this is what caused the problem. Had DTC P0454.

Does anyone have access to see the entire bulletin...maybe post it here?

MIL With DTC P0454 – 2015 Ford Mustang

5.0L TI-VCT – MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (MIL) ILLUMINATED – DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P0454

FORD: 2015 Mustang

Issue

2015 Mustang vehicles equipped with a 5.0L Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT) engine can exhibit an illuminated MIL with DTC P0454.

Action

Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using release 96.04 or higher. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraftservice.com

Ford Module Programming (FMP) is a software application that allows subscribers to program electronic modules on Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. It can be used for:

•Reprogramming emission-related (OBDII) modules on some vehicles manufactured in 1995 and all vehicles manufactured from 1996 to the present

•Reprogramming or reconfiguring non-emission-related modules on many vehicles (UBP and MS-CAN not supported)

In addition, module initialization (PATS) functions such as Keycode Erase/Reprogram and PCM Parameter Reset can be done using this application.

J2534 Device using Ford Module Programming (FMP) can Reprogram and Configure most Modules.

Was this a request at the dealer or they just went ahead and updated it?
I was wondering if I should get my oil changes done at the dealer or not.

They diagnosed the eng light as OBDII code P0454. The Ford TSB 15-0127 is for this particular issue on the 2015 Mustang with 5.0. So, with the diagnosis, they performed this software update to the PCM. So far, just only overnight, the problem has not returned.

There were no drivability issues. It performed perfectly while the light was on. It is reported to be a communication issue with the "stock" firmware and PCM/TCM.

Interesting read. I've never had a cel but my car stalled twice. Though the dealer pulled no codes they still performed a PCM update the same as you've described.
