Ford will need to invent a fourth crown and a cone to cover the point on their heads before they get $19K for any more than MAYBE one to a local magnate who has more money than time or common sense.

They'll need to get every cent of the $19K for as long as those cars will be rotting on their floorplan.

It's important to have jackass dealers like that to drive customers into the doors of ones that don't abuse their territorial monopolies upon product.

I had a dealer in the Seattle area that was asking for $20k over. The salesman said he managed to get (sucker) one guy to pay $20k over for his first allocation and SAID he had others lined up for any additional allocations he may purchase. Needless to say, we walked away from this dealer.

Well, I'm glad and sad to see this isn't just a Corvette thing and carries over to the Ford dealers too..

Luckily my local Corvette dealer that I have a relationship here doesn't rape people. Now I need to start looking for an honest Ford dealer in the bay area for my Mustang.

I'm coming back to Fords and a Mustang since I was completely screwed over by a dealership and got no help from Ford with warranty repairs in 1990 on my 1988 GT convertible. Hopefully things have changed in the last 24 years. :)

90 tempo.
You can not blame a dealer wanting to make an extra buck off of a new car, where most the time a new car makes the dealer peanuts.
As long as there is demand, I dont see why not adjust to the market and make extra profit.
Any of us would try to make an extra buck of off something unique that many want.

Not from a customer's perspective anyway. It's the manufacturers who have legitimate gripes since dealers exist to put as much product ad possible into consumers' hands as they profitably can and makers don't share in any ADM up-side. But most states prohibit makers from intervening on the matter of price setting for individual vehicles.

True, nothing wrong in making a decent profit. There comes a point where
it isn't a matter of profit but, just sheer greed.

If a buyer is actually willing to pay $19K over, who are you or anyone else to decide what constitutes greed?

I suppose you've sold stock shares that've risen in value or a home that's appreciated for less than a buyer was willing to pay if its value had increased excessively - or paid more than a seller wanted who had asked too little for that matter.

Is there a hard and fast line where profit ends and "sheer greed" begins or does some fairness committee meet every fourth Tuesday to decide?

Actually no i haven't sold any stock that has risen in value. Never have owned a home.

I have paid more for an item than the seller was asking.

What I posted was my opinion in what I consider to be greedy. So no there is no committee as far as I know. I am sure though you have many opinions and you are more than entitled to them.

You sound like you might be in the business. ;)

The difference is that stock and homes don't really have something like the MSRP set by the car manufacturer. That price already has built in profit for the manufacturer and the supply chain all the way to the selling dealer.

I do agree though, that the price is whatever the market will justify. Now, $9/gallon of water in a natural disaster time is outright gouging.

Not me. But Tricia can see it. No vin assigned yet. I imagine all LE vins will get assigned at same time maybe.
