I have found it's best to go to the dealer pre-qualified at the lowest rate you can find. Tell them you have your own financing. The dealers will try their best to beat it because they want the financing money.

The dealer actually got me a better rate with my own bank by telling them they had a better arrangement elsewhere; and I still get to use my usual bank.

It was nice.

I've had it both ways. I had a Bank of America approval in hand when I went to buy my SUV, 2016 Mercedes GL550. Somehow dealer was able to better the rate with the same bank. Not sure how that happened but I'll take it.

And some times dealers can't touch my banks rate unless they have a special rate financing, like 0% or .9.

I had planned on paying for it out right, but I ended up financing $60,000 over three years at 0.74% through Western FCU. Just the money sitting in a money market market account will do better than that.
Thanks to you, I was able to get approval today with 0.99% for 36 months (with automatic monthly payment, there is an additional discount of 0.25% to 0.74%)

They also quoted:
48 months - 1.99%
60 months - 2.24%
72 months - 2.49%
84 months - 3.24%

Once again, there is an additional discount of 0.25% with automatic payments on these rates.
