If you don't mind me asking, did you have any issues with CA registration?

All these cars are 50 state legal. As long as it was purchased new and registered in Cali first there will be no problem. Same as if he bought a new car in Santa Cruz. He will just have to pay the difference in sales taxes.

If it gets registered in the state of purchase first he will need to do a smog and vehicle verification before CA will title it here.

CA DMV is incompetent as fuck. I ordered custom '60s legacy plates back in november, I called yesterday and was told that they now take 4 months to make. I believe icormba ordered plates before ordering a GT350. Guess which he got first? CA DMV IS USELESS!!

yeah I am still waiting on my legacy plates. So I will have to return again to surrender the current plates on the car.
