As important as the LE is to Ford and the history of the Mustang, I can't imagine they picked the color based upon having a supply of leftover paint.
I agree, somewhere a while back I read that Kona Blue was a successor to WW back in the day...?? if I'm not speaking out of line...

Kona Blue didn't show up until the 90's. Hopefully Jon Clor will tell us in his book. If I were guessing, it is very close to the blue they use in the Ford Logo, called centennial blue. CB was only ever used on Packards in the 30's and was not metallic. Kona looks like a metallic version of CB.

Any update on the number of WW vs KB? The KB had been running about 30% and I'm curious to see if that holds through the end of production.
Thanks
595 Kona, 1360 WW 9 More left

Yep. I saw that. I half expected at least 8 of those to be scheduled today also

Kona Blue is a modern color with NO relation to Wimbledon White.
.
Wimbledon White was terminated after the 1971 Mustang build. It is also the color of Mustang #1 in 1964. As well as the color of my first Mustang (but I doubt Ford based their color decision on my car history).

Dealers HATE limited editions in only one color (thus green, blue, and black Bullitts in 01 and Green and Black in 08/09). Thus Ford needed at least a second "unique" color choice for the 15 Limited edition. They simply do not have the balls to do a car in one color -take it or leave it (too worried about missing sales opportunities)

Kona Blue ceased in 11 or 12? --sparkle particles in it are from Japan, only plant in the world producing them. Ford and others suffered paint supply issues after the tsunami thus Deep Impact Blue came into being and a paint formula change to eliminate the one source paint issue.

Thus...Kona Blue will be unique for the 2015+ models with the added bonus that it is already in Ford's system for paint coding, touch up paint bottles, the factory has sprayed it before, etc.

It is also a "Ford" color in terms of the "Blue" in Blue Oval so it fits into the Ford theme. Although the smart* move would have been a third color (unique-not in use Red such as Laser Red from the early 2000s) and gone tri-color from the tri-color bar of red, white and blue used on Mustangs. * smart being questionable as they are going to sell all 1964 of the cars anyway but it would have been nice build that way.

Interesting to see if or to what extent John Clor covers this in his book. The guy has a wealth of Mustang information but it must be remembered he works for Ford so his "news" is "authorized news".

My numbers are slightly different, but that may be due to differences in how geography is accounted and ordering dealer versus the car's actual destination market.

All 874 Autos are scheduled or built, here is what the break down looks like:
Kona Blue ..........246
Wimbleton White..628
My count made 254 KBAs which I x-ref'd against the individual data and came up the same. Do you have the roster for the combination.

0015 was the lowest S/N and 1950 the highest. 123 were in the 0001-1000 S/N range and 131 between 1001-1964.

Any suggestions as to the range containing the ones I may have mis-attributed since I come out +8? Here's my KBA geographic distribution.

None seem out of whack by ratio, but I have noted one discrepancy already which is Puerto Rico.

I have both 0514 and 1098 as KBAs for PR. 0514 went to Alberic in Carolina and 1098 went to Cabrera in Hatillo.

Now that all are scheduled, I'll be triple checking them all again. The colors are from the build sheets, not orders. Those two serials I also had as PR, KB's

I was trying to reconcile your original post which cited 246 KBAs with only 1 to PR rather than 2. Since at least the CAN and MEX KB totals match and no KBAs were built for other markets, any differences must be within the USA roster.

With KBMs being the second least plentiful, I'll reverify my count for those next which include 18 CAN units and 2 to through OMSC Switzerland for export. FYI, KBM 0513 also was an OMSC sale but is attributed domestically as a CA courtesy delivery.
