Factory Tune/calibration?

Stupid question for you guys… Dealership installed my Roush SCer for me so the only tune I have saved is the Roush calibration. Since I am switching to a different SCer the tuner needs a factory tune/calibration for a new tune. They suggested to just go to the dealership and have them flash the stock tune on the car and save it and then flash back to my current tune to get to my shop. Is there any easier way of doing this? Anyone know what the dealership may charge for this? Thanks in advance!

Mike I will be going to ESS and they do not provide a tune with the kit but they do provide a MAF transfer table. I use Wengerd for tuning already and they have tuned a number of ESS kits, they are also one of the tuners ESS recommends on their sight along with Lund and a few others.

I’m not a tuner so not sure the exact reasoning behind it. I had to send the factory Roush calibration to them also when I first went with an aftermarket tune. I don’t mind doing what needs to be done was just looking for the easiest way to get the stock factory tune so I can send it in and move forward.

I didn't have a stock tune on my car . I had a Steeda tune. All I did was tell them what mods I have and they sent me a tune for my car. You don't need a stock tune im sure they know what the cars stock tune is anyway. They tuned me for a ProCharger stage 2 15 Mustang

Ive read many of your post over the past year so I am sure you know a lot more than I do. I have never had to flash to stock to get a new tune in. Is his situation different because of his type of power adder?

@Unas2k5 yes, Roush replaces the OS, as does Whipple and probably livernois. Most smaller aftermarket tuners (PBD, Lund, wengard, oz, etc…) get comfortable (read: rinse and repeat) using one OS and make the customer switch to that because it reduces the effort required on their part. The stock OS is the most common so they can sell the most tunes with the least effort if they use the stock OS.

Thank you Mike that makes perfect sense as to why. Time to go sweet talk the dealer so I can sit in the bay and upload the factory tune and then reload my custom tune.

I’m certain a *good* tuner could make the ess kit work fantastic using the Roush os and base cal, but it takes a lot more time on both your parts. I personally have seen no aftermarket cal im more impressed with than the Gen3 phase2 Roush.

That says a lot about the Roush cal if you are impressed by it.

I am more than a little sure that a ford calibration engineer directed it’s development. It didn’t have the dyno time and effort required to make a true oem cal, but some stuff in it you only find in oem cals. Another thing is the mapped point definition and flow match the gt500 nearly identically, and iirc the Roush phase 2 actually came out before the gt500 did.

The Roush OS would be difficult to make work on a ESS. It has custom OS code for the map sensor to work amd alot of things that will cause issues in the background if trying to make that OS work on a non roush equipped car.

Far better loading back the stock OS and start Clean
