Factory Stripes on all previous gen mustangs questions

I've never owned a mustang, looking to buy a second car for a toy weekend driver. Looking and waiting to check out the GT350. If I were to go down the mustang route, I may want to look at a GT350 with stripes.
Are they painted or just stickers?

This is my personal opinion - There are very few cars that come from the factory with stripes that are aesthetic. You typically either get a couple of big stripes down the center or a couple of larger stripes down the center. They look generic and totally take away from the custom and sporty feel of the car. These types of stripes are completely played out.

In my opinion stripes are a "personal" thing. If you are going to do stripes spend the extra $1,500 to get custom stripes you like from a painter. Give me off centered stripes, Stripes at door handle height, several small stripes at the bottom of the door line with accent colors. Do ghost stripes, stripes with multiple colors, stripes in a different finish..Something, anything but the generic one color stripes down the hood.


Not meaning to offend anyone that has they typical stripes down their car and if you like them good for you. The same basic stripes we get these days are far from head turners, however.


I realize some of the images below are from the factory but they are the rare instance in which the factory does it right.

Google says that they are NOT painted and are just vinyl. I left the Ford family for years so I had to check.

I hear you. Im not a stripes guy either and stripes are definitely a personal taste issue. The only time I would go with stripes is if the car color cant stand on its own. In my opinion that would hold true for white, silver or Avalanche gray. In these instances I would probably do accents (caliper colors/painted roof) long before stripes.

Im not a huge fan of nostalgia, throwbacks, retro, etc...In my personal opinion the new 6g has queues to the past but it isnt a retro version like the 5g. I dont like the throwback stripes that were used on the 5g but I understand their reasoning. The same old stripes on a 6g make no sense and I cant wait to see what this community comes up with that will show off the lines of this car.

Guys, if you want to do it yourself, its a lot cheaper with Plastidip. Might not get the same glossy feeling but you'll get the desired look. Best part is you can just pull it off once your bored of them.

I've tested plasti-dip on my current car so far it looks good and will propably do it on my Mustang.

I really love the graphite with black stripes. Not really needed but then again, I'm not sure what will be included in the GT350. Are the stripes standard on the 2014 GT500s???

Yes, they're vinyl stripes. Plastidip stripes are a good idea if you ever want to change the look. Have a professional shop do it though.

If you do stripes make sure they are tapered. Should be 7" at the nose and 7.5" at the windshield then 7.5 over the top and trunk. Thats how I painted em on my Factory Five Cobra Daytona Coupe replica. When you look down the center of the stripes from the front it makes em look the same width instead of narrower at the back.

Yes, they're vinyl stripes. Plastidip stripes are a good idea if you ever want to change the look. Have a professional shop do it though.

If your changing the entire car color with plastidip, professional shop is the way to go, but if your spraying stripes, a little trial and error doing it yourself is the way to go. Save $$$$
