I wanted those nickel lustre wheels on my oxford white stang, so I got them at $500 extra. My choice, I just liked them. They could have been $800 extra, still would have got em. At the end of the day it is our choice alone, no one is forcing us. Some get an auto which is extra, some a manual which is cheaper. As a whole on a $58K car $500 was nothing.

I am here in the US the only colors Ford charge extra for are the ones that require a special paint process. On the Mustang that is triple yellow, ruby red and platinum white. These colors are a three step process; base, tinted clear, clear. Everything else is a base/clear.

Sounds like Ford Australia is doing a little price gouging.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your input, great to hear from our U.S buddies.
Dave in Australia almost every car maker charges extra for any paint that has metallic in the paint or pearl etc. base colours like white don't attract the extra charge here. Us Aussies pay extra for a lot of things in general across the board. But $500 extra is not a make or break, you either want it or you don't. Cheers

ok so I take that as no one has contested the additional price added by Ford AU.

thanks for all the responses, it was a fun read even though most obviously replied without reading the full point I was making. But thanks :)

I paid for Ruby Red and was happy - as someone who has painted lots of cars I would definitely ask for more for the Ruby Red as it is a complicated formula - even the top coat is tinted. Much harder to paint than a solid colour.

I read it and understand your point. But the point everyone else is making is that it's your choice to pick a colour/option and if they cost more or less it's at the distributors (in this case ford au) Decision to price it as they see fit. Why can't they charge more for any colour? How do we know what price ford au is paying for each option from ford America?

Yeh Ruby Red is one of the three colours that Ford US add cost option, not as much as TY or Platinum White, but the cost is being passed on from the manufacturer.

Everything in the brochure etc is an invitation to treat.

I really don't see how it's gouging when the RRP offer isn't binding.
Exactly, so you could make an offer on anything you like and it is up to them to accept, decline or counter offer.

Same here. I thought it strange that silver wheels were not std and black an option. Either way I wasn't having wheels that were black so, I paid the extra. The extra for Prestige paint wasn't charged.
