Excessive part buyer

How are yall convincing (staying) with your spouse on car parts. Mine wants to rip my head off. Any tactics?

Can't really be of help, but take solace in the fact that we single folk still have to answer to our wallets regardless. I'm over $3,000 in the hole, and I don't even have my car yet.

Lmfao. I just want so many little things. I just got some new wheels. Washed out pretty much on that. I wanted to get some black Friday stuff, but I'm almost sure she'd kill me.

It hasn't been easy. I bartered a lot of (if I'm being honest my entire Christmas list) to car parts. In addition her favorite hobbies involve makeup and photography, so every now and again I'll get her a gift card to Sephora or some new camera accessory to help soften the car parts blows. But the key is to always agree before making any large purchase.

Then again she knew what she was getting into before we got married. I always said being a car guy isn't cheap!!

Depending on how far you go. It can be much cheaper than other hobbies. Not in my case though. I guess I have to buy her more gifts more often. I'm pretty good at bartering as well. I generally work my way up to what I want.

I feel your pain, married 19 years! It's a push pull relationship. We both work hard. I actually just made a list of all (most all) of the mods I want and the cost. Slowly going to save up for the big ticket item, the whipple! I was just able to knock off full exhaust and a steeda CAI thanks to the nice sales.
Keeping the peace is a fine line but making a list has helped

I think it helps a lot if you had this hobby during the dating period already. When my wife and I started dating I had a 350z and going to car shows and working on the car were already an established part of our relationship. I'm sure that doesn't help you one bit at this stage though..

Been married 27 years now. The wife is a CRNA, so she's got the income that is almost 4X mine. I've always had my hands into a lot of hobbies, to include cars, guns and photography. Last year I finished a 16 year restoration on a '66 GT Fastback. I dumped about $35K into that over the years. During the whole time she tried her best to convince me to sell the project and get a new car. About the time I was wrapping up the '66, my daily driver got totaled, so I got the new car anyway!
So down in the garage is the '66 that still needs anywhere from $1200-$2000 to totally finish it up.
So getting aftermarket mods is like finding hens teeth. But I've managed the biggest (read:most expensive) with her blessings, but still got bitched out. The Magnaflow Street cat back. It was kind of a "self bonus" since I talked my boss into a 15% payraise.
But my cheaper mods that really made a difference was the white shift knob, black out covers for the sun visors painting my intake and coil covers and the Steeds Progressive springs. A little cash stashed aside now and then adds up.
She did get me the jacking rails for Christmas, and I'm going to order the 20mm wheel spaces off ebay soon too.
Now if I was to sell the '66, I'm sure it would be a free for all with mods. But I have to carefully balance between the '15, the '66, buying ammo to hoard, oh, and I'm also into building scale models. She bitches about the "stash" but it keeps me out of her hair and they cost a lot less that a supercharger!

I've had this hobby before her. I will create a list. That makes a lot of sense. That way she can see first hand what I need and how little it costs.

as long as her and kids are taken care of and there's still more than plenty money left in the bank... she could care less. I also try to sell off crap I don't use anymore on ebay and various forums to help make up for my purchases.

If I bought a whipple though, she would probably go nuts because I spent that much money and still can only go so fast red light to red light legally lol. She knows I want one though.

I need to give her a good christmas though because in the past year we have bought this car and all these mods lol. problem is she is such a simple person, buying anything for her is extremely difficult. She never "wants" anything. She could care less about jewelry and other common silly girly crap guys buy women for christmas. She don't even wear what she got except for her ring.
