Another stab at the 6th Gen Camaro. This time merging my own 2013 Z28 Concept into the Transformers 4 Bumblebee Camaro. I will work on it when I can. The rear looks like it will be the hardest to modernize BUT, anything is possible once I get the pics in clay.

EDIT: New Concept direction 4/23. Based on Car and Drivers 2016 Camaro Concept (Based on the Chevy Code 130R)

I will update the Original Post RIGHT HERE
VVVVVVVVVV When I leave off...

The parent fascia will be from this Transformers 4 Bumblebee Camaro. Kinda odd looking on the 5th Gen body, seemed kinda pinched.

My original Color Print... I have already removed some mass from the 5th Gen in this concept. A great deal to be exact. Remember, this concept still maintains the 5th Gens 112in. That could be a potential problem once you put it on the scales. Lowering the WB down to Mustang size will be too close to the Corvette, it will also leave no backseat room with traditional Short-Long Arm IRS. I'm afraid 6 extra inches is almost required for comfortable back seats.

Here is a comparison vs. the 2006 Camaro Concept (2010 is wrong, look at the side mirrors). The doors were sectioned (chopped) and the rear overhang was shortened to almost Corvette levels. I'll pat myself on the back and move on.

The initial clay of the concept's fascia (Camaro6a). It's crude and its suppose to be, only minor details are added to help aid in the direction. You will instantly see the upper grill slot has already been widened.

This is a design cue that I want to isolate. This perticular 3/4 stance is very nice and very streamlined. The intial clay may have been crude but this element has already surfaced... Lots to do here... I see some 2nd Gen here, lots of 5th as well.

Another element that didn't quite match up in the initial clay with the other half. Alone however, it brings back some IROC Z and 5th Gen at the same time.

I'll continue to plug away at the fascia, there is a lot that needs straightened out. Please let me know whats up and any suggestions are welcomed. Just focus on the fascia for now, I plan on converting the rear later on ONLY if the fascia evens out.

This is based on Car and Drivers stretched Code 130R 2016 Camaro Concept. I need to move some stuff around and get the grille surround in proper placement, perhaps ad another... I feel a little too much Mustang here but, I am willing to bet, the next Camaro looks a little similar. I decided to axe the Camaro6a chop. The car is based on the 5th Gen and it is very hard to wash the mass away. The Camaro will be all new, why base it off of 5th Gen dimensions.

v.SS1

This is SS1, the first big change was the grill obviously.

v. SSa

Smaller grill and higher... How is this direction here?

v.SSa2

(SSa2) Here is the issue already... The bumper support needs a clear path across the front of the fascia. Cars like the Corvette get away with it because the engine sits farther back. Most sports cars have rear engines and such and can avoid a large grill altogether. So, the grille size is reduced and slightly lifted. I need more room for a bumper support beam and SMC to cover it.

v.SSa3

(SSa3) Smaller and higher grille

(SSa4)

If I can EVER manage to get the grill proportions right, I'd be a lot happier than I am right now. I could spend all night on the grill so, this could be my last post for the evening.

After posting it and looking at it... THERE HE IS!!! THERE'S THE CAMARO!!

Now that we have enough room for the bumper support, we can start to work in some lower fascia grill work.

Need to be super careful, the idea is teetering on the Mustang styling...

2016 Camaro spied!!!

http://www.caranddriver.com/news/2016-chevrolet-camaro-first-spy-photos-news

Car and Driver claim a 109 inch wheelbase and a 300-400lbs weight reduction. If the V6 5th Gen Camaro weighed 3700lbs, they are saying it will be 3300-3400lbs. With all our experience with the C7, M4 and S550, I'd say any real weight loss will be difficult.

I also think C&D are crazy with the 109 prediction. It looks pretty close to the Impala. I'd say they stick to their formula at 112 inches. It needs a back seat. I doubt they can can match Fords 87lbs gain. They are still using a traditional unibody. They may have also kept the rear kick up to fit the cradle of a complex multi-link.

C5 says production starts in October 2015. That I'd dangerously close to a MY17. Looking back at my chops, I would really like this new look.

That will be difficult with a heavier engine, transmission, IRS and having a larger wheelbase while using an old school Unibody and matching the Mustangs content.

They will be lucky if they can match their current 3900lbs.

Some things I had pondered recently... The Alpha was considered a lightweight platform and it is. Although, this came from a time when 4000+ pound 4 door sedans were common. Ford can make a platform, a damn good one and state of the art. Lets compare the 109 ATS's base weight vs. the 112 Fusion. One is a small mid-size and the other is a full size. They are within 50lbs of each other if I remember correctly. Eliminating some of the traditional unibody's weaknesses and saving weight made that possible. This is just a loose example but, in today's standard, a 3700lbs base 4 door sedan is heavy. Now that there is 3300-3500lbs sedans being sold. The CTS is a large full size sedan though. Its an amazing feat considering the old CTS's weight and WB. However, on an industry scale, its right in the middle. If the Camaro used the ATS Alpha, I feel it would be too small. Keep in mind, the ATS wasn't designed for a V8 nor the power of higher end models. Remember my concern about the tiny sled runners? Major structural reinforcement would be needed. There is absolutely zero chance for a sub-3500 Turbo 4 6th Gen. In fact, if using the ATS Alpha, the V8 may not fit into the bay length wise. It could need a wheelbase increase. In order to support a V8/SC V8 AND a Convertible, the ATS's curb weight would jump considerably. The convertible weight was something I never could factor into my Fusion/Mustang comparisons. The S197 gained 125lbs preparing for the GT500 and, the 5th Gen took on 50 or so pounds in structural support in 2011 for the very. There is some weight the Camaro's Alpha needs to take on that the ATS and CTS (non LT4) doesn't.

Another thing that I was discussing yesterday with someone. The Camaro's MSRP. Ford put them in a position with a $33,000 MSRP. I can't remember off hand what the SS starts at now, $35,000 I think. We could be seeing a $39,000 starting MSRP for a V8. That's assuming they do like Ford did, just a $3500 increase (10% I think). Is the Impala RWD? Maybe using that platform could save them money. From what I understand, its not a heavy platform either.

The new LT1 weighed 465-470lbs. The Coyote weighs 429lbs. It still doesn't have DI which was a 18lbs increase via Chevy.

the pushrod V8 is now heavier than Ford's DOHC.
