Exactly what are the weights for?

Any Ford engineers out there that can explain what the weights are on top of the front cradle on my Eco Vert Prem PP. I realize they are there to cancel out some vibration or frequency but exactly what, please.

I would like to save the weight. 12 pounds for the weights and fasteners.

Do you mean it's for driveline vibration? If this is the reason - is it unique to convertibles, Ecoboosts, autos, 3.55's or is it just standard equipment.

What model do you have? Did you remove yours? I had to gain access to one of the rivnuts in order to mount a Steeda front K brace.

No

Diff noise is transfered through the cradle, these act as a area to allow the nvh to stop there instead of the chassis.

I have a Base EB PP

I removed them as soon as I saw them.

Just re-read your post. I have never seen them on the front crossmember. This is for engine or trans noise then.

I had not seen you earlier post as I took delivery just after the thread died. I also note that the actual need for the weights was disscussed with no definitive answer given. Nice to know I am the first to comment on the front bob weights though

Your latest answer really is similiar to the earlier post. Its pure speculation. I already knew that. I have owned several vehicles that had various blobs of metal added to counter act some - wait for it - noise, vibration or harmonics. Some on leaf springs, some on exhaust components, some on frame rails, etc.

I don't notice any difference without them but I may have changed some of the attributes with chassis stiffening. Just would like to know what to look for.

These aren't for chassis stiffening.

I am trying to explain that these noise dampers attempt to take noise and vibrations and cancel them out. This is to prevent the noise from traveling through the cradle and into the chassis therefore making your ride more enjoyable.

This damper up front will help with vibrations from the motor, especially with buzzing which is common on 4 cylinder motors.

If you dont notice anything that bothers you, whats the worry with removing them? Nobody is going to say that your oil pump or main bearings are going to fail because you removed those... I wouldnt worry about it.
