EU Hood Struts

Is there any text or law saying you can not disable this or any other feature your car has except the basic ones....Eg. You have a button to turn off the airbag at passenger's side...What if you turned it off and have an accident with a passenger?

The passenger presumably got in the car willingly?

I haven't read it personally but I wouldn't be surprised if there was some written text frowning upon doing such a thing "disabling safety features"

Passenger air bag is a safety feature, which has been agreed upon to be switched off BUT only in the case of having a child seat in the front.

Driver has to make sure that he has either;

1) Switched it off due to having a child in the seat OR
2) Has it switched on at all other times.

Despite all the safety\legal issue, maybe the hood can deploy correctly even with the struts installed due to the angle of them at the top of the hood.
I am not able to explain this, but think of that

I don't see how the hood struts in any way would intervene with the workings of the deployable hood. All that system does is push the hinges upward. The struts are compressed when the hood is closed and all that will happen when the hood system deploys is that they will decompress slightly. They will not intervene with the direction the hood is going in because they are hinged on both ends (one end to the fender and one end to the hood).

Looking at the install video, you may be right mate. I didn't take in to consideration the ball joints on either end of the strut allowing that sort of movement :headbonk:

Looking at the install video, you may be right mate. I didn't take in to consideration the ball joints on either end of the strut allowing that sort of movement :headbonk:

Hope this is the case because personally I'd like the struts. I just wouldn't want to disable a safety feature to get them

I don't care about the safety feature of the deployable bonnet. A pedestrian shouldn't jump out in front of my bonnet

Maybe a simply email to the struts manufacturers can answer our query.

On the other hand it seems to me very strange that Ford choose to install a '70s way bar instead of modern gas lifted method especially for its flagship model. Save money or not?

P.S. unless someone wants to make the experiment with his own bonnet....

Well, i have today installed the quicklift hood strutvElite and all i can say is, they work perfectly!

The struts are installed with the specific angle based that the bonnet rises normally (front wise).

The deployment safety feature works exactly the opposite: the bonnet rises from the back. Correct?

I'm not sure that struts can work both way at the same time. It is very possible to block the bonnet rises backwards.

I'm not sure again. I have to look it in person to figure it out. Needs some study.

But why are the holes at the fenders ready for hood struts? It is more than obvious that these holes are made for struts.

Moreover, after activation of this system, you have to replace the entire hood!

An excuse to buy a U.S. one with vents.

Buying a US hood would be very very expensive! I can't imagine how much shipping costs we shall pay..
It would be easier and cheaper to buy only the hood vents and make them installed by a pro.

Very easy to mount. Took about 20 min.
