Have a '16 GT with Sync 3 and twice in the last week I have had the navigation fail. It first stops tracking my movment (like it loses signal to the GPS) and then I get a message "Navigation Fault" with the little yellow caution symbol and the nav window goes blank. The radio/phone still work and it comes back if I stop/start the car. Has anyone else experienced this? Searched the forum and did not find anything.

Next time it happens I am going to pull into the dealer and see if they can pull an error code or such.

This has happened multiple times in both my 16 GT350 and 16 Fiesta ST. Normally about 30 to 45 minutes into a drive. Then sometimes randomly early on during the drive. The factory NAV is hot garbage and unreliable. Hopefully there is a update in the works to correct it.

Hey all,

I suggest a module reset to fix the navigation error. To perform the reset: Select radio > Hold the power button (center of the volume knob) + the right-seek button at the same time for up to 5 seconds. If the reset doesn't resolve the issue, then you'll need to make a trip to the dealer.

This has been happening to my car since the FIRST day I bought it, and it happened again, today. I've been to the dealer multiple times, and each time it's a run around - first, they want me to take a picture of it, when it happens, then they want to see it running when it happens. All of that has been documented, and uploaded to Youtube, and still, they say they can't fix it, despite it happening to the dealership owner's car.

The IVT team has been aware of the issue for six months, and still no fix. Other people that have commented on my Youtube video have noted that their dealership says that the Ford Tech Line has no record of this even being an issue.

Is it a HUGE deal, like our engines being destroyed by swedged-on cam sprockets (96-99 Taurus SHO)? No. Is it a problem that we shouldn't see in a $40k car? Yes. Is it at least something that Ford should be looking to fix, rather than just let it fester. Definitely.

*edited: Also, the above reset procedure works - for a little while. The fault WILL return, and is due to a disruption of service between the GPS antenna and the APIM module. To verify the issue, while it's happening, go to the Audio menu, then hold down the Right Seek and Eject buttons. When the speaker self-test starts, hit End Test, then press APIM Diagnostics and Location Information. Under normal circumstances, you should see a plethora of information. Under the fault condition, the GPS antenna can't receive from the GPS satellites, enters this fault condition, then can't recover, thus, you'll see all the fields are blank.

Reset process is just gets GPS back without restarting the whole car. Happened again on the way to work this AM. I am hoping it shows on the way home tonight so I can pull into the dealer (its on my route) and see what they think.

Cara,

Thanks for the info. Anything in the works to provide better stability? I have the problem on two different cars with Sync 3. The fix you provided only works temporarily.

If the reset only temporarily resolves the issue, then your dealership will have to take a look at the vehicle. I don't have any details if anything is in the works, but the dealer may have some info. Let me know if you need future assistance!

Quick update.

Dealer said I needed and update to the navi for this to stop giving the error. Anyone else who can't get it to work after a reset just take it in to the dealer.

It's happened to me too a few times. Blew right past my exit once because it just stopped updating and I didn't notice. I'll have dealer look at it next time I'm in there.
