First time owning a new car and getting it serviced regularly at a dealership, is this something that is proven to happen at every dealership or just speculation?

I do my own service and repairs, and being a automotive service business owner myself, I'd love to hear if a customers car was treated this way by one of my employees. If it was proven on the security cameras, yeah the employee would be let go and a no charge to the service you had performed. Just my thoughts and how I'd handle it.

I have been interested in this topic for a while now.

Mainly I want a custom tune with stock tune parameters and an RPM Limiter.

I would like to keep my warranty 100% for now, and loading a tune just to get RPM Limiter might be more cost than benefit.

If a service technician abuses the car, at least it still has warranty.

But if you load a custom tune, even if its stock tune parameters with RPM limiter, and something messes up (e.g. cam phasers / VVT), Ford may blame that on the tune and deny a warranty claim.

Good points though, I definitely want a tune for extra power. I'm not going to go too crazy modding this as it is my DD. No FI mods planned yet so hopefully I wont break anything after the warranty expires. We all know how that works though. Lund seems like the go to guys for tunes so I'm going to give them a call on Monday. I'll keep this thread updated with what they have to say.

Yeah that definitely crossed my mind but, I think the better solution for me was to just let the technician know and decide to take my car elsewhere to get serviced especially since I had already decided I wasn't going to go back there. I know a lot people think the easier solution is to do my own oil and I can see that POV and it is not something that is outside of my mechanical abilities. End of the day between work and another project car, I just don't feel like doing it and I don't mind paying someone else to do it.

I appreciate your thoughts though and I'll definitely keep them in mind if it ever happens again .

I did a google search on the topic, and these questions and concerns go back a decade. 435hp, manual transmission, and still there is no MyKey RPM / valet function

A visible dash cam might offer a some deterrence. It would be conspicuous if a service technician attempted to turn it off or unplug it.

Lund tunes (and others) comes with RPM Limiter. With that, you should be able to make it drive like a Honda Accord. I would like to see their faces when the start up the Mustang with custom exhaust, and they get a big grin, and then stomp the gas, and it caps at 3000 RPM :lol:

I see lots of Lund in the Signatures. Still I am concerned that if something goes wrong with the engine or transmission whether Ford warranty will make a fuss. Engine repairs usually start at $1000.

you know a 60$ oil change is a very good deal. I cant find oil and filter for much less and if you factor in the time it takes me to change it and bring the old oil into recycling. The only good reason I do it myself is to make sure it is done right.

Great video! Thanks for posting it up. I have taken my Supra in to get repairs once for a rear wheel bearing replacement that I had to get done before a deployment, and I have pulled the engine apart in that thing, multiple turbo swaps etc. Took them 8hrs and I stayed at the dealership the whole time. Guess I'll have to hunt down a reputable shop to have basic maintenance done.

It definitely would be pretty funny lol, I would prefer they not do it at all though. From what I understand and I'm not stating this as fact, if you broke something Ford would have to prove that the modification you did is what caused damage. I haven't seen any bad reviews of Lund so far so I feel confident nothing too bad would happen.

If the engine lunches itself, the 1st thing Ford is going to do is look at the ECU for evidence of a tune or re-flash. If they find one, they will probably automatically deny the warranty even if you could prove it wasn't the tune. Then it becomes a court battle if you want to take it that far.
