Hi all, I have a quick question regarding amplifiers.

I just bought a pair of subs and an amp off Facebook, pretty cheap they didn’t know what they had. $200 for two Rockford fosgate p3s and an alpine PDX-V9. Subs are good to go, but I’m having a little trouble figuring out if the amp is good before hooking it up.

I’m testing the components by checking resistance with a multimeter, and I can’t seem to find any info on whether or not you should be reading a resistance value by putting the multimeter leads on an unconnected, unpowered amp (on a bench).

most everything I’ve seen it has people just hook it up and go and I will eventually do that if I have to buy I’d rather find out before doing the install work. Appreciate any responses, thank you!

Just hook it up and see/hear if the amp works with the subs. You can hook it up temporarily to a battery for the test if you have the cables. The worst you can get is smoke out of the amplifier (as long as you don't short any power). You going to need specs and schematics to test an amp with a DMM and most likely need more tools to properly test it.
