Prices

Hello again.
I have to say that my prices are in Canadian dollars. Your EcoBoost Premium in US$ was only MSRP $29,995. PP same as here in Canada $1,995. Your A/T was cheaper too with MSRP $1,195 to CAD 1,500.
When my dealer didn't had the order guide 3 weeks ago, I did jump right on his offer to sell me the car at CAD 37,200.
I am only saying. Don't like the start arguing around with prices. I am to old for that. :gossip:

I wasn't arguing about price with you, just stating what I paid. I purchased through military AAFES program.

Sorry! It wasn't meant like that. I did actually reply to someone else post.

I got now my conformation from the dealer. But now after he knows the prices for the Mustang and packages - I had to pay the full 3,000 CAD for the PP. Couldn't haggle on that price anymore. :D

Well a few things affect your MPG. The gears going from 3.15 to 3.55 will probably give you a hit of 2 mpg like stilesg57 said.

Also, you will have 19" tires vs 18" and that will affect MPG a tad also. Not a lot but a tad. You will also have some added weight from the extra stuff.
The effect of gearing on gas mileage is a little more complicated than that. In this case, given a six speed transmission (and the auto will do better because it will aggressively upshift in light driving), the effect on mileage will depend on the type of driving. Highway mileage will certainly drop, especially over 65 mpg) but city mileage will improve because the higher gearset will improve mechanical advantage and require less gas to move from a stop; the transmission will move through the gears more quickly, but there are more than enough in a 6 speed. Suburban mileage (~40 mph) should also improve because the car can simply move into 6th gear where it would normally travel in 5th with the 3.15's, and again will benefit from proceeding from a stop.

Wheel size is irrelevant by itself. A shorter sidewall is better for mileage, just like higher tire inflation. The diameter (and thus circumference) of the tire is what is most relevant, as increasing that is like numerically reducing the gearset, and vice-versa.

Performance package question.

Currently I am seeing that the brake package is the same as the standard brakes on the GT. This being the 4 Piston brakes. The GT stock version comes with 18" rims.

So the question is can you get 18" rims for the Ecoboost Mustang with the Performance Package?

I am asking due to wanting to go with a lighter wheel with the 18" and also some lower cost options as far as tires that can be mounted on the 18's.

18" wheels fit on the base GT which has the 4 piston calipers so there is no apparent reason why the EBPP requires 19" wheels. You get the 19" wheel with the EBPP - that is all that is offered.

Same for the spare wheel and tire option. The base GT offers it so, again, there is no apparent reason why it is excluded when the EBPP is ordered.

I asked the Ford rep this question when seeing the 2015. He agreed. If the 18s fit on the base GT they will fit on the PP.

I was really not wanting to buy 19" snow tires

It's much cheaper to buy a second set of 17" or 18" wheels for snow tires. Take-off GT wheels are good, as are V6 wheels that show up on Craigslist regularly. Not only will the snow tires be cheaper, but saving the cost and hassle of swapping four tires on and off the wheels twice a year really adds up.

Well my brother works at Big O so I get rotations and mounts for basically free. Plus big discounts on tires (:

But it does seem once you go bigger than 18s in "lower" profile snow tires, the price spikes. Not to mention tread height is much greater in snow tires, so 19" snow tires may rub. Idk. Either way, 18s are fine by me and im glad they fit.

Personally, I wouldnt mind the charcoal bullitts they put on the 99-04s. I loved them on my 02 and would look "at least decent" on the S550. A shame those are 17s.

I'd use those. The rules for snows are different. A high performance snow tire around 225-65-17 or so would be ideal. Thinner is better for snow traction, though obviously too thin would be a problem on dry roads. 225-65 would be a good compromise.

It won't be terribly stiff. The benefits far outweigh the costs IMO. I'd expect about a 2mpg hit in the combined figure going from 3.15s to 3.55s, which if you drive 12,000 miles a year is only about an additional 38 gals (under $150 a year).
The Ecoboost comes standard with 3.31 (not 3.15), so from that to the 3.55 is negligble for Mileage. 5th and 6th gear on the MT82 are both very tall, and this is even more so for the EB. I drove a '13 V6 and 6th at 70mph was too much lugging for me. Also, others on this site have reported that the MPG's are determined using the highest gearing, so if that holds true you dont even need to worry about the fraction of an MPG youll be losing.

The effect of gearing on gas mileage...

...Wheel size is irrelevant by itself. A shorter sidewall is better for mileage, just like higher tire inflation. The diameter (and thus circumference) of the tire is what is most relevant, as increasing that is like numerically reducing the gearset, and vice-versa.
As for the wheels, I would add that 19" rims are heavier and tax mileage, although this will also be negligible given factory 18's are not a good deal lighter. If you want a noticable difference in mileage from the wheels, you can find 18" wheels as light as 21 or 22lbs each on tirerack, where the factory 18/19's come in between 28-32lbs each. The car would feel lighter on its feet and accelerate a hair better. Squeeze out maybe an MPG, save the 19's for special occasions?

At the end of the day, it will ALL depend on how you drive!!!
