Ecoboost flywheel gouged

Howdy all!

A quick question for those that have a moment. I have a 2015 ecoboost manual. About a year ago, around 80k miles my clutch gave up without any warning. I had no slipping or chattering, just turned into a bird nest after an aggressive stop light launch.

Had the car towed to the local dealer and had them diagnose/repair the issue. $2200 later, I had my car back. Fast forward 11 months later and it’s sprung a massive oil leak from the rear main seal (yes I am aware that the leak is unrelated to the dealers clutch replacement and do not blame them for this issue). Since I have some free time, I decided to tackle the rear main in the driveway rather than spend another $1000+ at the dealer. Once I pulled out the transmission and started disassembling the clutch, I found that my flywheel is pretty deeply grooved.

I suppose my questions are ‘Shouldn’t Ford have caught this during the last clutch replacement’ and ‘Do I need to address this now?’. Also, can I have this flywheel turned/resurfaced or is it not serviceable?

I should add that the new clutch disk does not currently show any corresponding witness marks or wearing in the grooved contact areas.

I'd take it and the clutch disk to the dealer who replaced the clutch, and ask why they didn't replace the flywheel.

I would replace it with a one piece flywheel.

That’s why I asked here first. I was not sure if reusing the flywheel in this condition would be an acceptable practice by Ford. I didn’t wanna start an issue with them unless I knew it was wrong for sure! Only thing I would replace it with is another oem component. Thanks for the reply!
