Nice write up. I would guess what it lacks in efficiency and design it makes up for in size. Price is nice. I think I would prefer to go with different choice but hey it is your car and if it works kudos.

Lately with the heat it has been averaging about 15 over ambient. On cooler nights I have seen as low as 10-12 above ambient. I thinking has been performing awesome and saved me a lot of cash for other stuff to come.

I don't think 'above ambient' is the crucial measurement here. The question is... Do charge temps cool down during a pull while in boost, and... How quickly does it recover.

You can easily see 130F to 150F temps while sitting in traffic with many after market ICs.

Usually on not such a hot ass day here, it has been 95-105- on boost it will average 10-13 above ambient. It will cool from about 20-25 while just cruising right down to 10-13 above ambient and typically stay there. On hotter days I will typically see about 13-16 above ambient.

When I went to the track the other day in Tucson it was about 104 out. The intercooler was staying at 1015 during runs. After a few runs literally back to back, it started to raise and got to 140. I parked the car for a few minutes and sprayed a little cold water on it and in 20 minutes I was back to about 15 above ambient.

As I keep stating, my results may be different from others. It has been really hot and low humidity here on certain days, and I am at 5000' elevation.

It is monsoon season here and on a cool night, maybe in the 80s, I have seen as low as 9 above ambient under boost.

I cant possibly show every type of situation and show how my results are. I just wanted to show others that there is an alternative to spending $500+ for an intercooler. Sure, its not the best, never said it was.

But it blows the stock intercooler out of the water and has been having awesome performance thus far. I would not recommend this for someone who does constant drag racing or track racing as I do not believe it is as efficient as some other top dollar intercoolers. But the bang for the buck- you definitely can not beat it.

Great write up OP.

As a general note & overall good pointer.

One can always look at the core's fin geometry to differentiate between a bad, decent, and good core.

External Fins:
Straight = bad
Offset = OK
Offset & Louvered = Good

Internal Fins:
Straight = Run away!
Offset = Ok
Offset & Louvered = Good.

From there the key to a better Intercooler is how well the flow is distributed through the core.

i.e. If the inlet is towards the bottom of the core and the endtank has no internal spliters & a tapered tank, than most of the air flow is only going thru the bottom of the intercooler. Thus, your only really using a fraction of the core's total size.

Hope this is useful to someone. :cheers:

This is fantastic. I really don't feel like spending 700 bucks on a IC and if this performs somewhere between stock and a 700$ unit I'm happy
