I'll be launching 5k RPM with DR's at the track this December on stock half shafts, I'll let you know how it goes.

Sooooo your saying wheel hop is bad?:doh:With out typing out a two page term paper. That is what I said in an earlier post . I'm not sure why you tried to give your scientific explanation on what wheel hop is! I'm also not sure why your trying to give me a history lesson on IRS:shrug: for the record. I'm probably about the same age as you and remember when IRS was a big deal. It was a long time ago. Now to get back on point. Op why replace the stock axles if their not broke? If you want to run drag radials just stash a little money in the piggy bank in case one does break.
NO Let me go slow for you again SLOWLY!!

Wheel Hop will not be eliminated no matter what you do. Because of this, running a car hard without strengthening the IRS as a whole, will likely break parts. This would be the reason to upgrade the axels/half shafts.

One other issue not discussed is the damage broken parts can have when spinning around at a few thousand RPMs. Do you just loose a shaft, maybe. Does the shaft tear up other parts and make the cost or the upgrade look minor. Could happen. Would you replace the broken part with a like stock replacement.

About my age. Cool. From the two responses I have received I would have bet on a 20 something smart ass. Do you also remember how many vettes back in the day lost the rear deck floor, battery and brake lines to broken shafts?

Your advice is to put money aside to replace a broken shaft. You may want to put a bit more aside to fix what ever else brakes.

You sure do type a lot. Go on out and get you some $1600 drive shafts if you think you must. If your a S550 owner you can quit crying about the IRS unless your going to do a live axle swap. Maybe throw a spool in it like my 95 has? But I'm on the edge of my seat to read the next chapter of your reply.:D
