That's fine and dandy if you have drive modes in the first place. Base cars like mine don't have em. Ford should have made them standard, especially drag mode.

I understand why the tuners make the shifts super hard, basically drag mode all the time. The hard shifts forces momentum into the next gear due to the heavy mass flywheel. So every time you shift, the car lurches forward. This is especially apparent with drag radials. I feel this this brief jolt of acceleration with every shift now that I have NT05r's. You won't have this effect with normal shifts, so it will actually slow you down because the momentum won't be carried into the next gear. Hence why the harder shifts are preferable for racing. But it would be nice to have something softer for everyday driving, and a press of a button when you want to those harder shifts. There really should be a mod for this for base cars without having to buy a new center console or digital dashboard.
What about driving with the shifter in "S" position instead of "D" position since your "D" position is similar to drag mode shifting

In stock form all the S does is make the car hold the rpm higher and goes through each gear (no skipping).

The shift firmness is exactly the same in both D and S, including after the tune.

So by altering the D firmness within the tune it automatically changes the S also?

I believe tuners have some flexibility in how D versus S is setup. The big name ones mentioned here as stated usually make your D drag mode.

My D drive tuned feels almost stock under light throttle cruising. The more pedal the harder the shifts and rpm. My tuner does not lock out the higher gears. Sport on mine is every gear very firm even under light throttle and quickly turns into slammed shifts without much more pedal effort.

I also despise aggressive tip in. Most tuners crank this option up which feels like your wot at half pedal effort. Mine is stock tip in. Lol.

I understand that changing things like shift points, shift firmness, and tip in changes performance in its own way. What Im curious about is what is being changed in the stock tune, say to a 93 octane tune, that produces more hp/tq? I am thinking about getting a 93 tune but I am thinking that keeping the shift points and tip in stock but tune for more power. The only modes I would maybe change the firmness would be in track and drag. Is this doable? Or already done in some tuners now like Lund, PB?

Ignition timing, VCT, fueling, and a/f tweaks are the main power adding changes being made. You don’t need any more power in Hawaii. Lol.

I emailed PBD and asked if they could customize each mode and they said no, all modes are the same after tune so that definitely takes me out of the game. I don't really understand why cuz with my vette the tuner was able to adjust different tables for the different modes. Also for the price a 1 tune for all modes seems way too high.

Surprised to hear that. My flex tune from AED is very distinct in each mode still.
