Dealer salesman told me after twisting the handle to unlock the top stop the movement and retwist/fold the handle into the locked position?

Same. No need to refold
I had the same question myself. But, saw others leaving it unlocked and decided to do the same. Works fine.

I didn't ask the salesman at the time, but wonder if the open lock handle could poke the top cloth in some way when it is in the down position?

I do not. But I do wonder every single time I turn that handle how Ford could have gotten "rightsy-tightsy" backwards. Its unnatural.

I fold mine back into place to avoid the potential of damaging the top.

Careful.. Turning the latch back exposes the latching mechanism a bit more.

I never close mine. I believe the manual says you do not close it.

It doesn't actually say not to close it. It's not addressed at all. Says turn the handle to unlatch and push the button to lower.

Most of the car salesmen's are idiots I have found that when I go looking for a car I know more about the car than they do. There just there to get you the keys and tell you that you look good in the car. No you don't have to it won't hurt a thing.

I agree with you for the "most" part with most being key. The guy that sold me the Mustang was pretty knowledgeable.

I usually unlatch it, push up a bit, then reteach it. Then down it goes with the button.

I have the same problem. I thought it was because my Audi was the opposite direction.
