Morning All,

I did a swap out of my 5.0 fender badges and upon removing the passenger side badge the fender did not have the mounting tabs?!! Has anyone experienced this before. The badge itself was dead on placement wise with the driver side one. I bought the car used and carfax as well as previous owner said it was never in an accident. Any thoughts on this? Not too worried just wondering if anyone has had this before.

Sounds fishy, I'd contact the dealer/ seller. I bought my car certified used too and didn't think to ask for a ppi but later found out the previous owner did a resinator delete by welding some random pipe in its place causing an exhaust leak. Anyway an after market cat back fixed that problem

So I asked the previous owner again and he swears the car is all original and nothing has been replaced. Through the whole process he's been a stand up guy always available to calls and text messages. I'll call the dealer but how do I go about asking?

"Hi, I just purchased a mustang and the previous owner claims it had never been in a wreck, however when I went to replace one of my badges, there were no mounting holes which makes me believe that the fender is aftermarket. Can I set an appointment up to have someone look at the vehicle and tell me if it is all original?"

Sounds good, I'll have my local dealer check it out.

Sounds like it was replaced with an Ecoboost/V6 fender since they have no holes as they have no badges. Not that it matters, theyre all the same fenders, the GT ones just have the holes stamped in them.

If could have been damaged no in an accident and replaced; ie a shopping cart hit it in the lot and it was cheaper to replace not through insurance.

Still should have been disclosed when selling it to you, as someone actively cut the tabs off the 5.0 logo to affix it, but as long as it's an OEM fender and the paint is good and matched perfectly, I dont see much harm in terms of function.

bigger conspiracy: its actually a coyote swapped eco boost.. dun dun dun DUN
It's a coyote swapped Ecoboost that was damaged on the DRIVER side by a shopping cart and they replaced the fender with a GT fender.

I can imagine the factory accidentally using the wrong fender and if they did, putting on a badge without pins would be the logical solution. It would be really dumb to replace a fender after the body was painted because it would not match perfectly. And drilling holes would be riskier and more time consuming that just sticking some badges with no pins on the car.

On the other hand, not everything gets reported to CarFax. When my Cadillac got t-boned, the dealer doesn't do body work in-house but owns a body shop that specializes in luxury cars. That shop claims they do not report anything to CarFax and that it is the insurance companies who take care of that. That says to me that if you paid for your repairs at a shop like that one, Carfax would have no record.

Out of curiosity did the badge look like the pins had been broken off or made without any pins?

An appraiser should be able to tell if the fender had been replaced.

The badge had the mounting pins removed (broken off). I removed them the same when I mounted the new one on. The previous owner said he went through the car 4-5 times when he bought it because there were issues with the panels aligning correctly on the 15's and panels being swapped at the factory to correct this. He said the 15's had many issues and some of the 16's were the same. He mentioned there was a thread on here so I'll do some searching. The guy has been legit and other than this, up to this point there's been nothing mechanically wrong with it or cosmetic other than this minor detail.

I think the most logical solution is what's mentioned above. the car might have been damaged at the factory, or had the wrong fenders put on, and so the factory popped off the tabs and stuck the emblem on.
