Since getting my mustang in June it's been in workshops a few times (some good reasons and some not so good). Ford did some work on the paintwork due to some factory faults in it and to be honest the results aren't as good as i hoped they would be. My car has been left with swirls and fine marks in the clear coat and a few small scratches that i only found later when cleaning the car. I would rather pay a pro to sort this as i dont want to give my car back to them as i would be dreading what I would find when I got it back. So the question is should I get it done now (which is what the heart is saying as you can imagine) or get the winter out the way and do it in the spring? Also does anyone recommend a professional car detailer in the Wiltshire area to do it?

Interesting that Ford didn't do a marvellous job...I had this concern when I noticed some marks on the driver door caused by shipping when I picked her up and when warranty claim finally came through 6weeks later I decided to pull the plug as they were going to paint the full door and didn't fill me with confidence that it would be a perfect job:eyebulge:

Wise choice. Ford will never touch my paintwork again. What I didn't put in the post was that when I picked the car up after the initial 6-8 paint defects it went in for were "fixed" I found 6 new marks on the paintwork including a huge chip on the drivers door handle, a gouge on the door sill, 3 inch scratch on passenger window and to top it off a 8 inch deep gouge under the front splitter and scrapes all down the right side of the valance. As you can imagine I was speechless when I saw it. It looked like someone had been rallying in it. After getting the dealers head guy on the case they did the marks again (not brilliantly), new splitter, new valance and I'm still waiting on the window to arrive. That's been about 2 months now. As you can imagine the very thought of handing my car over to them fills me with dread now.

sorry to read this, shocking service.
I dont understand why a company as big as Ford's dont fly their parts over. My dealer has a shipment every week flown over for parts.
The clips from my hood, were flown over as was the Pony Puddle Light
if he can do it, and he is one Dealer. There is no excuse for Ford not to
Hope you get all the issues sorted out soon

I guess each individual dealer does it their own way. Unfortunately for me mine is a bit slooooooooow. :-)

Is your car a daily driver? A detail will get it looking smart and protect the paint somewhat - so pro's there. But Detailed or not, daily drivers don't stay clean for long and stenotypes are unavoidable.

I've had to accept that given my motor is a daily driver, a thorough clean on a Sunday afternoon doesn't guarantee it will look anywhere near by Monday evening!

I've said it before, but new cars don't stay new for long. - Whatever you do, just enjoy it!

It was my daily until about 6 weeks ago. It now only goes out when the weather is nice at the moment. I totally get where you're coming from regarding keeping it clean. I wonder why I bother at times. It's the swirls that I want gotten rid of as it's bugging me that they're there.

If it bugs you, detail them out, get it protected, win win :D

Au contraire.

After 12.5K miles, a quick wash and hoover brings mine up just as clean and shiny as when I picked it up.

Mine was clayed and waxed 2hrs after I took delivery and then given a proper new car detail and G-Techniq'd 2/3 weeks later. Only been basic wash and dryed (by the same guys) in those 12.5K miles and it looks every bit as good as the first time they did it.

Having seen Gibbo205's recent detail I would bet he'd say the same about his too. It certainly looks it anyway.

This!
I got lucky at collection as I would not let Ford wash it, but at the same time the car was filthy and they said it had to be clean in order to PPI it for any marks/scratches. So due to a stalemate they actually paid a detailer to come and clean it on site and not the usual work experience boy with his bucket and sponge that did 100 cars previously.

Typically a proper detail will restore your car to new quality or even better, only real issue being stone chips, but I've not really picked any up thankfully.
