While doing my headers, I was jacking on the oil pan with a 2x4, and the wood just barley caught the frame. I unknowingly kept jacking and then it slipped out from under the frame and the motor jumped. Now I have a dent, and I’m wondering how bad it is? Does it look like it will contact the pickup? It is not cracked or leaking, I just don’t want to start this thing up with no oil pressure.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about. It’s not that bad in the pics. I’ve seen more damage from people that have hit things and still run their pans.

Sweet. I’m going to start it up tomorrow and keep an eye on oil pressure and hope it doesn’t have to come out. The only part that really worried me is the part circled in red. Kinda looks like a crease, possibly from the oil pump pickup?

That’s pretty small from what I can tell.
Here’s what the inside looks like. The pickup is about an inch off the bottom.

If it sits an inch up, it’ll definitely be ok. Thanks for all the help. That picture helps a lot.

The pickup is definitely closer than an inch, more like 0.25” - 0.375”. If you you maintain good oil pressure all the way up to redline then whatever clearance you lost by denting it isn’t causing any issues.
