Deer attack! Quarter Panel repair options?

Hadn't driven the Mustang in 6 weeks and had a game to coach out of town last night so I pulled it out to drive it a little. On the way back a deer decided to go all Japan 1944 on me, and jumped into the rear quarter. My question is what are the options with that? The car is basically brand new, so i would prefer there not to be bondo on it, but the dent is on the crease of the fender and i know once metal is stretched its hard to get back..

Can't buy a new rear quarter because it runs up the back of the coupe all the way to the front in one piece.

No, the rear quarter is just that, a rear quarter.

It runs from the taillight area up til just past the rear of the door. $900 or so retail.

Looking at the car it looks to be part of the structure? Is it a piece that can be taken off? If so that would be amazing

OP, sorry about the car. You can buy replacement quarter panels, drill out all the spot welds and replace it to skip bond, but the quarter is also a part of the sail panel... It would need need light plastic work on that seam where the panels would be joined. If done right though, it would be a thin coat and I doubt you'd have issues in the future with it.

Never dealt with insurance before, can i demand that it be repaired properly and not just lathered in bondo?

If a body shop uses Bondo to repair that damage...please run very far away from that body shop... :tsk:

Not to mention, no legit insurance company will authorize Bondo only repair.

There's nothing wrong w/ a light coat of filler, not 'Bondo', to get a perfect surface.

My Stang is in the body shop right now getting repaired.

A lady in a parking lot went all Japan 1944 on Ruby while she was backing out. My car was parked, so it was totally her fault. The link below is to the thread I started shortly after this happened.

The estimate to repair her is now a little north of $8k, and the culprit's insurance company (Geico) has approved the repairs at this amount. The right rear quarter panel is being replaced, as well as the rear bumper.

Just find a really good body shop. If you read my thread, you'll see that I went with the best shop I could find here in Central Texas. They're certified to repair high end luxury cars, including Bentleys.

A good shop should be able to make your Stang as good as new. The bummer is, I bet the deer didn't carry insurance, so you'll have to make the claim against your insurance company.

Yes. Your state laws should allow you to choose the repair shop; not the insurance company.

I'm no body repairman, but there's no way that your quarter panel should not be replaced. It's a brand new $40k car. No bondo.

Geico did not bat an eye in approving the replacement of the quarter panel on my Stang. And the bumper too.

The tricky part is using a body shop that can do an excellent job in matching the paint. I've heard white can be particularly difficult. But again, I'm not a body repair expert.

That sucks.

i was hit years ago in the same spot in my T-Bird SC. I thought the deer was going to come through the drivers window. Had a snot mark down the side of the rear quarter after impact.

i was able to get behind and pop mine out, no creases like yours.

Just take it to your body shop (NOT DEALER) and have them do a propper repair.
