I can't stand the fact that you have to walk on eggshells when dealing with tuners. I'm in the process of changing tuners. First tuner had for a few years. Very good tuner when things are going right. When issue comes up...... "you have a problem you need to fix it". Now doesn't give advice or suggest anyway of troubleshooting. Just fix it. For all the people that are gonna tell me its not their job to fix my car I get that however if a tuner has no clue as to where to even begin with an issue how is a novice gonna know where to start.

New tuner is also well known. Must be too well known as took almost two weeks to get a base tune. Logs all sent within 24 hours of getting the ok and specifics as to what log they were looking for. Its taken up to a couple of days to get responses to each set of logs sent. (Still no revisions from base tune) At this pace it's gonna take well over a month to get on a tune I can run at the track. Wtf!!!!! what good is a good tuner if you can't get a tune? Wait, I can see on social media they have plenty of time to post there.

First tuner was fantastic in the fact he would always respond next business day with an answer or revision. Always without fail.

I guess I'll ask the question of the day ... what's wrong with the car ?

And what are your mods ? Must be major if a big name tuner hasn't been able to get you dialed in yet ...

my statements is just in general. Issues I'm having now May or may not be a tune issue. Just wanting to try a different tuner.

I've done so many different setup changes with the first tuner as well as with multiple cars, nitrous, na,boosted etc.......

Here's an example of a conversation......

Tuner. "Your logs aren't telling me anything"
Me. "What do you want me to log?"
Tuner. "We need to see what convertor is doing". Now doesn't tell me what to log mind you and another wasted trip to the track because I logged pids that I thought he wanted.
Tuner. "Again your logs aren't telling me anything"
Me. "What specific pids do I need to log so you can see what you need to see"
Tuner. ". Log these pids".

Me. Saying to myself. Mother fu@ker that was my first question when you told me they weren't showing you anything.

I've had good luck with Lund myself, I've never used any other tuner though.

Took a week or so to get a base tune. Responses/revisions within a day, sometimes within a few hours. Longest I went without a reply was 2 days when he was having someone else look at my logs.

It sounds like your problem is with remote tunes, not the tuners... Go to an actual dyno tuner if you want them to help diagnose your issues. It's a little hard to troubleshoot something when it's not in front of you. They can toss you suggestions all day but without physically having the car in front of you, there is only so much they can do and their time is money.

I don't understand why it is so taboo to say who the tuner is when the customer is not happy? This isn't directed at OP but more a general comment. I have seen it on many forums and in many different car groups. If you are praising the tuner, your encouraged to name them. However if the experience was unsatisfactory it is best to leave them unnamed. I don't agree with that logic as feedback from others is often one of the biggest ways to get a feel for who to go to for tuning.

I want to see honest reviews and make an educated decision based on that. Customer service, response time, power, drive ability, price etc. All these are things that should be able to freely be mentioned, but yet they never are unless it is 100% positive.

Just wondering why someone with bolt-one is having issues...Lund et al. Are basically plug and play unless he is going e85, even then.... and it is Lund this is one of the few I have ever heard of having issues with them. John, John's Mrs and Dakota have all been great! Hell Dakota spent 4 months working out every little detail in my tune to make it flawless. I <3 these guys!

It's taboo because you need them. If you seem like a problem customer they just say go somewhere else and they wash they're hands.

i don't know why you think it's the tune / tuner's fault if something (you didn't mention what) starts happening with your car if you say it worked fine for a few years. Response time, yeah that would be annoying.

first, tunes don't change.

so if the car was running fine, and then all of a sudden it's not, it's not the tune, tunes don't change.

if there is a mechanical issue, sometimes it can be diagnosed, sometimes it can't via looking at logs.

switching tuners doesn't change that.

i would simply get the logs to whoever was tuning the car, and let them see if they can help

Love the doughbag........ he's is spot on on that video.

Install is new, so not something that's just popping up after a few years.
Ya, his older vids are funny as hell. :hail: Now, he's with VMP and is more tech serious in his vids. I think he dropped the douchebag routine.

You paid your tuner to tune your car, not troubleshoot and fix your mechanical problem. You can pay a mechanic to do that if you lack the skill/experience to do it yourself, just like you paid someone to tune your car bc you lacked the skill/experience to do so yourself.

Most tuners have the mechanical experience needed to try and point you in the right direction but they are not there with you to actually witness problems/concerns so there is only so much they can to guide you. Contrary to what most believe, datalogs do not capture everything the car is doing. There is not a PID for everything...

This speaks to why we only tune for certain things. We get asked a lot why won't we tune for specific parts. Answer being, remote tuning isn't "easy", it's why we have set recipes of what we will and won't tune for.
ALSO, Don't assume a tune will fix the problem that your car has, regardless of the tuner. If your car is misbehaving before you tune it and it continues after, maybe you should fix the car and not blame the tuner.
