So i surpassed the capabilties of the supplied Vortech intercooler at only 14psi. I was seeing a 65-70 degree temp rise at only 14-15psi. Crazy! Vortech says the intercooler can handle 1000hp but my data logs say different with the car pulling 3 degrees of timing with my IAT's hitting around 170 after a pull through 4 gears. The intercooler is fine for a dyno run in 1 gear. But thats for The dyno queens.

So here is my possible solution. I had this new intercooler custom built using a 4.5" Bell core. I will be mounting it today.

Here she is

Cant wait to do some logs and see what it does. I also have a piece ive been working on to get air to the dead space behind the the bumper. We shall see how this all plays out.

Very very nice! I switch to 6 inch treadstone 1300hp cooler but lost power across the board even going from a 3.6 pulley to a 3.47 gated on 12lbs it was down 18whp & 21tq. The Paxton is a better core but like you going to 15lbs & grew out of it's efficiency. I was looking for a cheap replacement & lost. I have a AGP cooler on my twin Camaro that does excellent at 1100whp I might borrow it for the Mustang & see if I pick my power back up (if it will fit).
Looking forward to your results with the Bell.

Yeah a 6" core is huge! Probably was just to much or you lost some flow.

I am interested to see how this works out as well. I also was trying to think of a way to get air across the cooler portion behind the bumper. I thought about some sort of scoop. I think i mentioned this in another thread but I compared my logs to a buddy's log with a d1sc and stage two intercooler. We were both running same boost on the same day and our IATs were withing a couple of degrees at the end of a pass.

I have a 20% OD on the car also with the 3.47 but it never crossed my mind about it being to big. I have a 3.00 pulley sitting here begging to go on but I'm going to do some logs with all 3 coolers that I have if I can get a weekend free. I just added a boost controller, so I'll be able to see how much boost in a particular gear & rpm that will help along with logging temps & ect.

That's a badass I/c! That should get those iats down for sure
Thank you! We shall see. I hope it will. This could have just been a $950 waste lol.

Looks great!
What are the dimensions of that core? trying to figure out the cfm. You can never have to big of an intercooler. If this dont work the one in the background should.

And for unshrouding the core I installed the watson front tube crash bar. it should help but not data yet.

Well i did some testing, and it looks to be almost 20 degrees cooler for IAT's, its still hot as hell down here but come winter time it will be even better.

So on to the bad news. I have some serious knock going on, i'll be doing a compression check advised by Lund, tomorrow to rule out low compression. But this car has been running so well i decided to look over the car for false knock and found this on my Pypes headers.

From what ive been told, thats probably my issue. Ill be cutting the ball and socket joints off and using a high quality band clamp for now to connect the headers to the lead pipes. Ive always had to keep tightening those connections on the Pypes headers sice i had them. So i guess the flange just spread out to far and cant get any tighter.

Is that -20* iat at the top of a 3rd or 4th gear pull? If so, then that's a real nice improvement. Also that loose header flange is going to be the culprit behind the knock.

I had same issue with the headers on one of my builds. Its 100% the knock issue.

I have a twin turbo kit and just ordered a custom 4.5x10x24 bell. I am hoping for 40-50 reduction. I am seeing 175-180 at end of a run.
