Cost for converter install

Good morning. Ok I've had my FTI converter for awhile now but not installed(I know its in my sig). Finally saved enough to get it installed. My usual go to shop is busy for months (ugg) so called a local tranny specialist shop in area. Was quoted $1,000.00 for install (8 hours of labor). That seems excessive to me. My longtubes were only $500 to install & that was estimated at 6-8 hours of labor at my usual shop (Hurricane Performance). Should I expect to pay $1,000.00? I may need to call around for better price or wait for HP to have time.

I'd ask what is involved for the $1000.00. Are they changing the filter, flushing the entire system, plus adding new OEM trans fluid? If brake jobs are $400-600.00 these days at retail shops, than I can see this costing 1000.00. In most industries these days, I have found 1000.00 to be the standard cost to pay someone for a day whether it's carpentry, electrical etc... I had about 3 hours into my converter swap, but I didn't add anew filter or all new fluid. It was a 12k mile car.

I could see it being around $400 to $500. Its a local transmission shop, price sound way to high for me. HP specializes in mustangs,camaros, corvettes so trust them more. I'm thinking dealership may be cheap at this point.

Got converter in & it tore the torque converter seal. They had to take tranny back out. After inspecting it appears wrong 1 was sent. Hopefully FTI will give me the correct 1 or refund $. Bought it from @LethalPerformance on 2/19/2019. Yes I sat on it but part has been sitting in box whole time. Lost $ on install/putting stock converter back in.

@gameovergt same exact thing happened to me. When i called FTI, they blamed faulty install, said i had an early model 6r80, then they finally said kiss off. Was a pain in the ass getting my money back. I lost the cost of install also. Key dimensions were different versus my Circle D converter. FTI sold me a shit converter and thats a fact.

Update: just for email from John Boxell, can't tell the converter is bad from pics. Wants to know if I want to send back in for check? said I am out $ for the install and just refund & asked how to proceed.

just got off phone with Andrew @LethalPerformance was told to email [email protected] for my options. Hoping I can trade it for a Circle D.

Dalton FTI's sales person is admitting its bad in emails, says will fix for free. But I have to ship back to them at my cost & I also lose the cost of install.

FTI paid to have it shipped back to them for inspection. Will update.

I have an FTi 3200 stall in my car which is now at my tuner's shop for an Exedy stage 2 upgrade with a billet shaft. noting wrong with the converter but clutches slipping in the trans. Fti is very helpful as my tuner is sending it to them for a flush and check to make sure all is good when they put it back in.. cant wait to get the car back...
