I haven't been able to track it down and pin point it but a few times now I close my top and as I'm walking away I hear a thud noise happen.

Anyone having that happen to them?

I've tapped things with my hands to see if I can recreate the noise, sounds like the noise it makes if you do a quick smack on a metal part of the top.

I think what you are hearing is the locking of the steering column and center console. I hear something similar every now and then, and I am pretty sure that is what it is. One time I heard it while still sitting in the car, and right after that (just had to verify) I could not open the center console.

yep that's what it is, when i close my roof its smooth and no noise
easy to test, sit in the driver's seat, press the start button, don't touch the roof, turn off and wait

It's definitely not the steering column lock. I've heard that it's a different noise.

This thud happens in the rear somewhere and is very bassy

Trying to examine it further, I believe it's how the top closes on the little triangle windows. The windows don't line up and are caught on a lip or something and then it goes flump and settles into the right spot.

Now I have to watch it happen.

I've owned five Mustang convertibles over the years and I've never heard of this type of problem before.

I think you need to run that baby back to the dealer ASAP, as you want to make sure that you don't have future water leak problems.

Examined it again, wasn't that.

The thud only happens after the top as been latched shut.

I tried it with the windows still down it comes from the rear part of the top.
It makes the same sound as if you were to knock on one of the metal frame arms through the fabric. It's like a loud pumf noise

I'm of the opinion that you need to run it to the dealer right away--something is definitely not right.
