I'll talk to him today about it. What I do remember was that during most daily driving you won't see an issue but if you hit a good bump or two, you'll definitely rub/crash.
Thanks, BmacMI:cheers:

I've had two sets of Conti DWSs on my S197 and the Pirellis and MPSSs on the S550. The MPSS is in a class of it's own. There's MPSS at the top, then everyone else fighting for second place. What an incredible tire. FWIW, I think that wet performance in the MPSS is better than my S197's DWSs which were excellent themselves. Hard to know for sure since they're different cars and tires sizes, but it's not an issue in heavy rain and I have 275 F and 315 R. They clear water just fine.

I would spend the extra for the MPSS every time. That being said, I'm also of the mindset that the part of the car that touches the ground deserves the most attention.

MPSS: Best dry weather grip and feedback

Conti DW:
  • Best wet weather grip and feedback
  • Better cold weather grip and feedback
  • Costs about $100 less each
  • Will last maybe 10% longer

Save yourself the trouble of swapping summer and winter tires. Just get the DWS, instead. Comes with 50,000 mile warranty but reviewers have said it has lasted beyond 100,000. DWS is Ultra High performance so your still going to get great grip in Dry/Wet conditions.

DWS tires have extremely soft sidewalls, so soft I can fold them over with my fingers. Mounted on a performance car they feel very squishy IMO. I mounted them on an S65 AMG as a winter setup and it felt very strange compared to the original Conti Sport 5P.

Does make for a softer ride. But I agree, the steering feel and response is greatly compromised. The tread squirm on those when new was always interesting as well.

For a non-performance DD absolutely they are great tires. I would compare them to Conti ProContact and Michelin MXM4.

Where do you live Todd? I'll be needing new tires in maybe 2-3 months. When the time comes I'll price out both with my dealer discount and make a choice then. Still not sure if I'll be getting wheels at the same time as my taste is richer than my bank account.

Thanks, BmacMI:cheers:
So I got the scoop. The main actual issues were at the front, where anything larger than a 265 violates Ford's packaging clearance requirements. That said, you should be able to to a 275 without major issues, but you might be testing the upper limits. At the rear, if you can make it fit through the suspension travel with the right offset, go for it. The Shelby will have 315's on 11.5" rims, so it's definitely feasible.

I've had DW's for summer (285/40/18's on Forgestar F14's)and now have DWS's for four seasons. (275/40/19 on RTR's) Here's my take on the DW's:

They were fantastic summer tires. Decent grip, quiet, nice ride and VERY good in the wet.

Also, as an added bonus THEY ARE LIGHTER than most tires of the same size, significantly so. And this is weight further away from the hub so it's even more important than the weight of your wheels. Many people completely forget to think about the weight of their tires and only consider the wheel weight.

And of course, the price is reasonable too.

They one drawback IMO is that I never thought they looked very good. The sidewall is eh and they have this kind of rounded look that I didn't like. They are by no means ugly. I just like how most other tires look better in terms of the sidewall. Tread pattern is fine.

I have 275/40/19 DWS on all four corners on my 2012 5.0 which is lowered with a pro-kit and has Koni dampers. The sidewall is a little soft, but hasn't effected me much at all. No, it's just not razor sharp nimble like a Miata with MPSS. but the car handles great and I can take corners very fast with no drama.

That tire is pretty incredible with how it performs in all seasons. It's amazingly good in snow for such a high performance tire. Past two winters have been bad here on Long island, and the car is my DD and the DWS got me through without much trouble at all.

No tire will be best at everything in true 4 season weather, but this is as close as you are going to get to a jack of all trades, at least with today's technology. Hopefully there is something even better in the future.

I live just north of Atlanta. About an hour north or so. I plan to order my new wheel setup in the next 3 weeks. I was told the wheels will likely take 60+ days to come in since I am going to order 20x11's for the rear. Would be curious how big the discount would be since I would then have to take the wheels and tires and get them mounted and installed locally vs. everything arriving all mounted with TMPS, balanced, etc.

Thank you so much! This is great info to have. I will check out the 265/35/20 and see how much smaller they are vs 275 and its diameter.

I was told I needed -2 camber at the rear to get the 315's to fit with no issues. There are a good bit of members here that are running 315's and they have reported no issues :). This made me feel all warm and fuzzy:D

Thanks my LI brother:D. Thanks for sharing the info. I also read about the lighter weight. This will go well with my TSW Bathurst's weight savings. Those will provide 40lb savings over the stock PP wheels. So any more I get from the tires is an added bonus.

For a DD car that might see 5k miles a year, I just cannot see the $500 price increase to run the MPSS's. That $500 all but covers my Livernois tuner/tunes:love::D

I ran these tires on the front of my 2010 Camaro (along with a set of M&H DR's on the back) and I liked them.
