I don't know if I'm just now paying attention because I just did the Blowfish bracket installation, but driving home today I noticed that the center console (where the cupholders are, near the shifter) is noticeably warmer than the surrounding area.

Is this just me noticing something, is this a known issue, or did I somehow f*ck something up?

That's kind of what I thought. I get paranoid when I touch shit sometimes (even though I'm a mechanic, I work on different systems and have a bad habit of second-guessing myself) and a modification often makes me hyper-aware, including noticing things that are normal and existed before but I didn't note.

I noticed this too. I was sitting in the car after a nice ride listening to some tunes and was like, What the?. I was starting to get warm.

It's not much on the highway but is definitely noticeable during city street driving. I'm wondering if the bracket doesn't simply transmit more heat. Right behind the shifter to the right of the parking brake is certainly hotter than the surrounding area.

Yep. Soda cans get warm fast.

But, it does keep my pop tarts toasty on the way to work each morning.

mine gets warm too...is this something with all the MT cars or just the ones with the blowfish bracket? i have the bracket installed on both the 15 and the 12. only the 15 gets warm. the boss does not.

Isn't the Blowfish more metal where the stock has some plastic bushings or something? If so, that would explain heat conduction. I don't know anything, though.

You say this like it is a bad thing. Second guessing yourself improves your knowledge as long as you figure out what you are second guessing. A lot better than the numbnuts that have zero situational awareness and can't even watch a temp gauge on their cars and do thousands in damage.

Sounds like we have similar personalities. Do you go into a "quiet panic mode" when you start second guessing?

Yep, I absolutely do. There can be many mental "Oh fucks." It's something I've noticed about myself over the years.

The other is that I tend to be very, very project-focused. When I'm working on a project or build, that's the only thing that I'm thinking about; if I'm in my shop welding something or working on an engine or am generally involved in something I'm building or servicing, I'll completely lose track of time. I'll ignore pretty much everything until I'm happy. Unfortunately, I'll often forget to eat or drink because I don't want to stop and "lose my place." If I'm lucky I'll recognize this before I screw something up and end up with the grinder out! Usually the symptoms are that I get really irritable and I lose the ability to do mental mathematics.

The machines I build and repair for work are responsible for holding loads over people's heads, however; second-guessing may take me a little additional time sometimes if I have to tear down a unit to triple-check my work, but it's better than having a failure!
