Competition Orange Full Paint Correction

So I picked up my Competition Orange about 2 weeks ago. I was pretty disappointed on how the paint was. Swirl marks, light scratches, etc.

So I spent about 20 hours and did a full paint correction, polish and wax...

More pictures to come, I have some Vossen wheels and a lowering kit on the way and plan on doing a better photo shoot then.

And if it WAS the dealership that put the swirls in it (most likely) I certainly would NOT trust them to detail it!

I have a friend who runs a detailing company, and so many brand new cars are damaged by dealers "detailing" a car before delivery :(

This is what I was worried about. The dealer detailed it and I'm guessing put the marks in it. I know how to buff and detail properly so I would rather do it myself anyways.

Looks great. When my son bought a 2014 the dealer thought I was nuts asking for it not to be washed. If I have the opportunity to buy one I will ask that the transport wrapping be left on. Some think it is anal, we all have different opinions of what is acceptable. I bought a black 2010 Camaro new and probably spent 40 hours with a Porter Cable 7424xp removing the dealer induced paint issues. If you complain about the dealer prep detail they will most likely mask the issues with a glaze, which is just a band aid for paint correction. This time I will be buying either Ruby, Race Red, or Ignot. Black is phenomenal on the S550 but I am not sailing that ship again.

SO funny story... told my salesman to not touch my car after it arrived till I could pick it up. Went in after being out of town and the car sat at the dealer for over a week. Fairly confident they detailed it. I looked it over and could tell they did but didn't really notice any marks until yesterday when I washed it myself. So much like OP said I now have do the 18-20 hours correction on the car. Last car I did it on was my CTS and that was 2 solid days of all day work. So hoping this will be fast But after being with the car alittle more and seeing all the lines that don't really show up in pictures I am thinking not.

OP, I am concerned by the CO not having any flake or metallics in it to reflects light and distract from scratches that might appear. I am novice detailer and am aware of the work that goes into a correction.

With that said, do you think imperfections from daily use will show up more quickly given the "flat' appearance of the paint?

Kryckter, You did an outstanding job on bringing your car back to life and the way it should look.
My Dealer here in PA has a V6 on display out front of his dealership. I checked it out and it looks like shit. "Orange peal city" and low gloss paint. Maybe it's the nature of the beast (Comp Orange) but your orange paint is the best I have seen. Good luck with your new ride.

Looks great. Just curious but what steps are involved in a paint correction. By correction I assume you remove swirls, etc. Or do you wet sand to remove orange peel then buff. I've done several paint jobs and they all were wet sanded and buffed to remove orange peel. I would be afraid the paint would be too thin on factory paint to wet sand and buff.

CO looks so amazing in person. Just finished a pre detail today as the sun set behind it in Florida. I just stood outside for like 30 minutes looking at the color. It was so mesmerizing. Anyone know if there is an different top coat or is the orange just that dynamic? For having no metal flake the color changing effect it has is pretty astounding.

I don't think the straight paint appearance will cause it to show more imperfections. I actually think the orange does a pretty good job hiding the problems.

The color is very hard to photograph. I feel these photos are doing a decent job but still not showing off the paint to its true color.

Normally a full paint correction could include some touch ups, with wet sanding. They make great tools to measure the thickness of the paint to know how much you can buff. I did not do these steps on this car, the paint did not need that much correction. I just started with a light swirl compound and a very light cutting pad. I did not have any problems with orange peel on my car as well...

I believe the top coat is the same. The color is very interesting on how it looks it different lighting...

Can you post what you exactly did (step by step)?

Would love to know the details since I've never heard about this type of stuff. (and what orange peel is)

OP ,,, when you were going over the car multiple times, did you see any tiny chips ? Almost like paint bubbles that popped?
