This is not an issue but a question.

I had a 2019 GT, and in the winter on first start of the day it would idle high for about 20 seconds and then drop.

My 2020 for 2 winters now will idle higher for 60+ seconds in the cold and has since new.

Can anyone explain why the two cars would be different? I got both cars brand new/off the delivery truck so there was no funny business between them.

All my previous newer cars idled for about 20s then dropped, that's the normal I am used to. The 2020 is the only modern car I have had that will stay at higher idle for much longer.

It’s all about getting the catalytic converters up to temp as fast as possible. There may have been a change in how the temp is determined or the best way to get it there.

I have a 2020 GT, automatic, California Special. On the first start-up of the day and it is below 40 degrees, my car will idle at 1500 rpms or so for at least 1 to 2 minutes before it starts to slowly drop to 1000 or below, especially, if I have not driven it for a day or two.

Thanks for chiming in! That makes me feel better to know I am not alone with this behavior on a '20.

From what I have read here and other areas online, people said the fastest way to warm up the engine is to drive it. So, I let my car sit for about a minute, and then I take off slowly in Drive mode - normal. Once the engine warms up, I switch over to Sport+. The transmission is weird and jumpy when cold.

Normally I wait about 20s and then go, because that was when previous cars had their revs drop.

I know this post is a little off topic, but it still has to deal with the cold start-up. On the first start-up of the day when it is around 30 degrees or lower, it will take about 2 to 4 seconds for my car to start. However, subsequent starts on the same day, when the car is warm, will only take a second. Has anyone noticed this?

Once I installed the Ford Performance Calibration kit, that high RPM startup is gone regardless of the temperature.

My neighbors appreciate it.

Did you find the Ford Performance Calibration kit worth the money? Any noticeable increase in sound and speed?

A noticeable increase in low end torque and much smoother throttle response.
Expensive for what it is, but for keeping the warranty, I like it.

What drive mode do they recommend you put it in?
Normal, Sport (S), Sport+, Track, etc.

I use all the drive modes.
I also just installed a Soler performance throttle controller.
Have yet to get any real drive time due to the weather.

I have the same kit I believe, but my cold start didn't change.

If you have a manual, the kit gives a much nicer feel at lower RPM / around town. You can up to 40lb more at lower RPMs which IMO was a big change in the feel of the car for every day driving.
