Don't want to get you upset but your symptom is the same as ALL other PP owners with the torsen... We all experience it and I have yet to get a definitive answer on how to eliminate it...

Once I find my answer I will share with everyone..I have invested a lot into the rear suspension and it still prevails, the only other things I have to try are the MGW and the Aluminum one piece driveshaft.

Try that again, but for the first time you put the transmission into gear, hold the clutch pedal to the floor for 30 seconds or more and see if it clunks the same.

It sounds like the clunk is made because the input shaft is still turning. But once you put the transmission into gear and then go through the other gears the input shaft has already been stopped so it doesn't clunk.
Hmmm, i will try this next time I drive. Thanks

Also, many people install the softer Steeda clutch pedal assist spring which helps you modulate the clutch pedal better for smoother shifts. I think a lot of the 'clunking' is caused by un-smooth shifting caused by the crappy clutch pedal feel. I rarely hear any clunking from my GT.
Again, thanks. I will definitely look into this.

I think what you're hearing is just drive train slack. Get yourself some differential bushing inserts and get rid of 90% of it. For the remaining 10%, a 1 piece driveshaft.

So the bushings really help with the clunking? I've been leaning toward getting them. Waiting on my clutch spring and fluid to get here...trying everything I can to make this transmission more tolerable/enjoyable.

I have the same problem. I have 2016 GT PP with 3.73.

MGW does not solve it. Noise isn't related to the shifter.

Bushing inserts did not get rid of 90% of it for me. I guess if you're issue is your differential itself is moving and banging on something, then sure. Not their purpose. They keep the thing from moving around causing things like wheel hop and a disconnected feeling, etc.

Go under the car, grab the drive shaft, twist. Hear that clunk when the shaft twists a little and stops? That's most of the noise. Other noise is the clutch operation which seems to be noisy on these tranny's. Some cars are worse than others. Some cars, across their entire line, never make this noise. This has been a problem since the MT82 showed up in Mustangs... so. And, this same noise is common on Chevy 1500 trucks. Grab the drive shaft in N, twist it, clunk clunk... same thing.

IMHO it's a differential gear lash thing, U-joints, and a poor design that isn't acceptable in 2016 (if I'm allowed to be super critical).

Also, changing your fluid from one to another will not solve physical driveline slack. It may dampen it some, but noise will remain. The slack is design/tolerance related - METAL parts.

Just bought a new 2016 GTCS w/MT about 7 months ago and the day I drove it home I heard the clunk sound going from 1st into 2nd. Unfortunately it was February and it sat in the garage until spring/summer and I didn't think much of after that. I just hit 1300 miles on it and still hear clunk sound, which is kind of annoying.

I decided to contact Ford after reading that other people were experiencing the same problem. Some say it's normal some say it's not, but I want to see what Ford has to say and also get it documented with them that it has this problem.

The Regional Manager should be contacting me next week. I'm sure he'll say get it to the dealer for evaluation. I let you guys/gals know what ends up happening. Hopefully they say it's normal and I'll just have to crank the radio up so I don't hear it.

I definitely want to know what Ford can offer. Thx

Clunk from 1st->2nd may be your synchronizer protesting. You always get that? Even when the engine is hot, and shifting slow ?

I would say about 80-90% of the time I get that. Even when I take my foot off the clutch real slow and engine hot I hear it. As nice as the car is Im disappointed with the noisy transmission.

This may not be a real good comparison, but when I drive my sons Civic SI 6speed its quieter and I never hear a clunk. I think the mustang should be that way.

How about when you double clutch?

Sync issue would be when your clutch peddle is pushed in, and you try to shift from 1st->2nd. Clunk when letting the clutch peddle out is something different. You can try going to the Ford dealership and test driving a new Mustang and then compare yours.

I would expect that the Honda Civic Si shifts smooth. I haven't driven one, but the Honda manual transmission has an advantage of having less engine to deal with.

I checked the Honda website, and nearly all their 2016 Civics are CVT. No 2.0T manual transmissions for the enthusiast.

It's not just the PP I have a base and mine does it too. Although it is lessening with 3800 miles. I just wait a second or two before going into first and it won't happen. Since it is rather common I don't sweat it much. It doesn't happen anymore while driving running through the gears.

When stopped at a light before putting it in 1st go 2nd then first. I had a 06 ranger and my 06 mustang did this as well if you are hurrying the first gear from a stop it will do this in most manual cars.
