Not sure they get much closer than this. From where I was, I couldn't believe they hadn't hit each other. It really looked like she drove through the SUV. Must have missed by inches.

Interesting note about how you remember things. When I described this to a friend before I pulled the dashcam video, I said that the driver of the BMW never slowed down. Looking at the video, she did. I remembered something completely different.

Just shy of it. Continuing straight over the overpass at the end of the video puts you on 140 South. Turning right just before the overpass puts you on 140 North.

The intersection where this took place is at Hall and South Main.

"But I looked to the right!"

Something similar last summer with a friend of my wife's. Pulled out into traffic and was T-boned by a motorcyclist she never saw coming from her right. Impact killed the cyclist (~50 mph speed limit). Hit hard enough to total the Toyota she was driving. Just horrible all around.

My cam caught this the other day on my way into work. The light here can back up a bit, and black SUV didn't feel like waiting to turn left.



No, that wasn't a weird reverse-police escort. That guy got pulled over, just off-camera to the left.

There's a light near my office that's like that. However, when the local schools are opening or closing, the police go real easy on folks (otherwise the backup gridlocks a good chunk of the town) and everyone, including the school buses, does what that driver did.

There is a school to the left, and I'd guess that's where the SUV was headed, but this intersection does not typically back up much. Filling in the narrative here, that was a parent going a little to far to prevent their kid being tardy. That maneuver would have saved ten seconds tops, but now the kid will definitely be late.

There's a crossing guard here, and that day it was a motorcycle cop. (It's usually not a cop.) You can see him starting to mount up to join the chase, but he backs down when the SUV stops.
