Just got the oil changed yesterday. With car idling, if I bring it up slowly to around 1800 rpms theres a rough patch in the engine along with a clicking, ticking sound. Goes away with higher rpms. Seems to be right around the 1800 mark. Im headed out on a trip tomorrow and wondering if this is worth worrying about.

does it happen under load too, or just idle?

I want to say no. Its kinda hard to tell with the road noise and exhaust. Ill pay closer attention today.

I only ask because I experience a scratching/ticking sort of sound precisely at 2,250 RPM

Confirmed happens under load while cruising in first up to 2k rpm. Seems like it only happens once the car is fully warmed up from a drive.

sounds like my issue. Last time I was at dealer they couldn't replicate it, happens every single day though. I just find it so odd it literally happens EXACTLY at 2250 for me.

I heard the stock resonators are poorly made and can have holes in them. If you have an exhaust leak, it will sound like ticking or clicking.

did you install a oil filter with a check valve? fl-500s for example would work perfectly. i notice right after a oil change, my car does this, but around 1k miles in it's no longer audible

I asked them to check for an exhaust leak as I have been suspecting something with the way it sounds under drivers seat. I got under there couple nights ago and banged around on everything, checked joints etc. Couldn't hear or feel anything unless it's off the manifold.

I am sure they used just a regular motorcraft filter at the dealer, but I will keep an ear out after 1k. I only have about 60 since the change.

For me, I have the BBQ tick after oil changes..this is different though, sounds exhaust related.

I've got an X to roush AB so no stock resonator to deal with.

I agree, I have a Roush axleback. I think I will just go full catback and see what happens. Weird that it showed after an oil change. I have had three done and this is the first with the clicking.

I listened to the bbq tick video on that thread and it sounds exactly like what mine is doing. Guess this PP2 kit will never get put on at this rate.

The 1850 sounds like the BBQ tick to me. I have that. The 2250 RPM noise that ryant601 is talking about is probably the flex pipe on the passenger side cat. I had mine replaced and it went away. The X-Pipe makes the noise noticeable especially next to concrete :) The BBQ tick I have not had addressed because everything I read has indicated that it is within tolerance and a result of Motorcraft Synthetic Oil with the fix being a new engine which I am not interested in. Good luck to both of you!

You replaced the whole cat?

Yep. The flex pipe is welded into the cat. Not much you can do. My dealer is cool so they didn't blame the catback. Also may have helped that I had the stock catback replaced prior to putting on the FRPP sport for a bad resonator.
