Cleaning cup holders in center console

The cup holders have a rubber liner in the bottom. There is a tab on the rear cup holder. You'd think the tab was there so you could remove the rubber liners for cleaning, but the liners don't seem to come up. Has anyone had success in removing them?

there is a tab. Because you have to pull the base up when you need access to the smart key programming slot.

RTFM, and look again.
