Chassis # question

Can someone explain to me how Ford assigns the Mach 1 chassis numbers?
After seeing several build dates and comparing the date to the chassis # it doesn’t seem Ford assigns the number as the car is being built.. thanks

It’s pretty random. I think they get a batch of number plates on the floor probably weekly based on scheduled build dates and then slap them on in no particular order. Obviously car #150 is built before car #2000, but I don’t think there’s any reason to think car #149 was right ahead of #150 on the assembly line
