So just out of curiosity does anyone know how ford assigns the chassis number? the 17's that I have looked at all had a letter and 4 digit number. Just wondering if this is the last 4 of the VIN or some other number they pick, and also where does the letter come from? is that for specific year or production run or some other part of the VIN? Just curious...

The letter designates the year; G is 2016, H is 2017, J will most likely be 2018 because I looks too much like a 1
As far as the number itself, I believe they are assigned sequentially, but not necessarily built in sequential order. Someone else may have more/better info.

The letter is the year

F-2015
G-2016
H-2017

The number is how it was sequentially build for that year. So G2500 was the 2500th car built for that 2016

The last 4 of my chassis is like 39xx, but the last 4 of my vin is 44xx.

I would assume that the chassis number is sequential, from 0001, but not sure what would cause the vin to be off slightly from the chassis

The VINs don't necessarily start at 0001, as there are pre-production models that do get VINs (I think). Also, the Rs do start from "HR001" and those are mixed in throughout the build year.

HR147 here.

Could be. My DB of 2017's starts at 0013, so I wasn't able to get any data from Ford's site for anything before it. (I wrote a script that would generate possible non-R GT350 vins then check Ford's site for data on it).

It also could be that even though the R's have the start of 1FAT instead of 1FA6 (the fourth digit says what type of safety equipment), they could be adding the number of R's made in the vins.

So ~1000 R's + ~10000 others might work out the slight difference in chassis # vs Vin#
