Very cool! I just remembered I have an old 6" android phone laying around that I can use. Mainly interested in the trans temp, and didnt want to mess with the car itself. Thanks, and nice set up!I got around to taking a few snap shots. I was a little busy all day driving the '97 Cobra with the top down to burn off some gas and top it off again (taking advantage of the sunny 80 degree weather). Gotta love ethanol....
Anyway, as you can see it is just a simple setup. I don't know why you would need anything more than this. Personally, the gauges that are available on the selectable instrument display most of what you need.
What I do like about the 7" Bluetooth tablet and the OBDLINK app, is that not only can I configure a gauge for any parameter I choose from the menu (and there is a lot of them), but it also doubles as a data logger if I wish to add gauges to GoPro videos.
Keep in mind that the gauges can either be analog or digital (fully user configurable) and can occupy multiple pages which are selectable by swiping back and forth from page to page.

Thanks Tom. I checked into the OBDLink app and saw it doesn't support iOS in bluetooth.. Figures that's what I have.Tank , Shift ^^^^^^^

And that is the problem with this type of approach..... where do you put the damn thing? For all of you who are doing this to monitor transmission temps, just do the Forscan tweak. It really is easy and as long as you write down your original settings, you can always put it back exactly as you found it. For anything outside of the Forscan perameters or OBD sensor outputs (like an external transfer pump), I guess you are stuck with a hardwired temp guage. I am not aware of a phone app that can pickup a remote sensor directly off a pump (or rear differential for that matter). If memory serves me correctly, wasn't differential temp the one perameters that tech cars were not able to add via Forscan?I'm gonna get one to put the transfer temp on my phone. Just looking for a clean setup for holding the phone
I agree about the Ford can tweak, but at this time in my life that is where I have the KPH speedoAnd that is the problem with this type of approach..... where do you put the damn thing? If you still want to avoid Forscan and insist on a permanent mount for an android device, then you are looking at finding the right place to put it. Good luck, anywhere on the windshield robs you of some visibility. Anywhere else will require some imagination that will still wind up looking like a rig. In my searching around the car, I thought the A/C vent area would be good and I thought I read that there is a mount that will work. I don't remember the specifics.
I'd just Forscan tweak the Trans temp as opposed to some permanent rig. I wouldn't worry too much about the transfer pump or differential temps. If you are looking at heavy tracking, add the cooler to the differential and leave it as an unmonitored perameter. I never monitored those perameters when I tracked recently, but did review immediately after each session. For the differential, you could just monitor with an IR thermometer immediately after each track sesssion. Or as an alternative, hardwire thermocouples and add guages inside the car.
