Not the housing! the canister type filter you silly rabbit!! It is speculation. However, being that a canister type is being used on new build 350's it seems possible. Curious as how it works with existing hardware unless they changed something which according to Ford there are no mechanical changes.
Funny...Lotsa speculation going on. Good observation about lack of announcement around this change

I have no experience with canister filters but don't both types involve screwing some component of the filter on, how would a canister be less susceptible to vibrations?? Locking mechanism? Higher torque specs??
Not just to you Harold but anyone else???

this new canister is on any 350/R built in the calendar year 2017...they stopped the old filter style during the "winter break"

new filter p/n HR3Z-6881-A

there is no way for the older cars to be fitted with the new canister style

So they most definitely changed the housing. Thanks for the info!

I just had my motor replaced about 2 weeks ago and it was built less than a month ago. It came with the older metal type oil filter and housing.

Wonder if the housing change was to prevent leaks?

Same here. My replacement motor has the metal style and was replaced in winter by the end of the year.

What's So Scary About It? Mechanical things break down all the time. it's not as if the voodoo motor is somehow immune to Mechanical failure because it is in the GT350.

The engines on the GT350's are a wear item. We all tend to replace them at around 10,000 miles. Didn't anyone tell you?

Maybe the plastic housing can handle the vibrations better without spinning free? That's my hope at least ... I am looking forward to checking which filter type my 3/17 built car has come Saturday.

there is no way for the older cars to be fitted with the new canister style

I talked to FP and the block has NOT been changed and the filter housing will be available to swap at some point. Stay tuned.

I looked mine over last night and it looks like an easy swap.

I just checked my '17 GT350R that was delivered in late August (HR104) and it has the standard white Motorcraft oil filter on it. I will add that I just had the oil changed for the first time less than 2 weeks ago at the dealer when they did the oil line recall.
