Depends on the finance as specified in the article, anything that means you don't own the car until final payment is stupid if you're planning on modifying it.

Fitting the odd spoiler etc I don’t see a problem with as long as the cars returned to as it was originally purchased if given back but fitting hybrid turbos and methanol injection etc is a bit much! Plus splashing it all over YouTube was a bit of a schoolboy error :cwl:

It's not about what YOU see as problem though, is it?

If your contract states any breach means they can ask for full payment within 7 days as per that M4 then it'll be a pretty expensive modification.

If you ask before you sign up, they would most likely agree to most simple modifications to secure the sale. Get that confirmed in an email and you’d probably be okay. If the worst came to the worst and your mods add value to the vehicle, then just flog it to cover the cost and you’ll have profited

I have mine on Ford PCP. I asked before I signed and was told by the salesman that mods were allowed. He basically said that if it was minor and did not devalue the car then it was ok. Or you would have to put it back to standard if there were any issues at the end of the term.

I am planning on keeping mine as it’s 0% and was the only way I could afford to buy one.

However I completely understand why they would have an issue. Especially with serious engine mods that effectively make the car unsuitable for a main dealer to sell on later.

Finance companies as with all businesses are there to make money not help you out. They only allow people to be trusted with a car worth loads of money because they are covered by insurance and or able to take the car back. If you have made the car worth a lot less which arguably you do when you mod it you can see why the risk increases for them hence wanting full payment.

The blokes main problem is that he made himself identifiable on you tube by showing off.... always cover your plates in pics and don’t make the mistake of thinking the internet is anonymous...
