Caliper Covers on 50 yr wheels

I really want to get caliper covers for my race red GT. I have the 50 year wheels. Has anyone done this? Do they work? Previously I had pony package wheels on my 2010 and the covers scraped. Advice is appreciated TIA!

I don't like the looks of the covers. i painted mine and was very happy with the out come. took a lot of work, but worth it. my fiend has a set of covers and it looks cheap IMPO

i got the paint kit off ebay for 25. i did the work myself. not hard just takes a lot of time. plan for the entire day

The covers look nicer than I'd imagined.

Though DIY is a nice accomplishment. Etch, was there lettering on yours? Looks like it in bottom pic? Also, do these require periodic repainting?

i put the Brembo stencil after i painted it. as for touch ups, i dont think so. the paint is the Dupli-Color Red Brake Caliper Paint with Ceramic KIT - Part DUP BCP401 Break. the paint is very thick and is a Ceramic, so it holds up to 500 degrees and is really hard. if it need a touch up. ill pull the wheel off and take care of it. for 30 bucks and a few hours of my time, it was worth it compared to the covers costing $200. im sure some people like the paint and some people like the paint. it is what it is...

Moto111, i want saying your covers looked bad, i just dont prefer them. i wasn't slamming on your ride. you have a really nice looking S550.

Caliper covers look cheap and rice. They're on par with plasti-dip, stick on plastic chrome fender vents, fake hood pins and fake carbon fiber anything.

Not only look cheap but they are bad for your brakes. They hold in the heat which is really bad for your pad/rotors/calipers. Also dangerous if you can't stop because your brakes are overheated.

Pull them off and paint the calipers.

Did you actually research the issue before commenting? Plenty of evidence out there. Not going to do the research for you.

Plus, some basic common sense considering aerodynamics of performance cars purposely channel air to cool the brakes. Clearly the brakes need cooling help already. How would wrapping the hot caliper in plastic of metal causing an oven effect help dissipate the heat? Please enlighten us.

They're also lame totally rice. But enjoy your brake fade and potentially wrecking your GT eventually when the correct way is about $20 and less fake/ricer looking.

OP paint them do not go covers. Purely bad/wrong advice.

Ummmm no. The paint won't fade. If you buy the good stuff and do it right. It won't.

Please OP, don't buy those covers. Get G2 paint or get them powdercoated.

I also have to agree with some of the others here...I think caliper covers look cheap and ricey....I would never put them on my car.

but as the saying goes..."to each their own."
