Yeah i watch iat's just for fun lol. I did the same on my subaru lol. Ive found even with the stock box, you still get iat's 20 to 25 deg higher than ambient. Its not so much that its sucking in hot air...its that damn sensor , it gets heat soaked. When i drive around town with my unshrouded intake, the filter is still cold. The sensor is warm....especially now that i have headers. I have a open gt grill, and that puppy blast air right onto my filter. Infact with recent rains, im getting water on the filter and water in the area arohnd the filter. The pipe is a little warmer but only because its right by the radiator. So long as theres some air movement, my iat's are only 10-12deg over ambient which is about the same i get with the stock box. Thats just my experience....and i do have a open gt grill which makes a pretty big difference in airflow to the snorkle

Filter is directly behind the air intake, half of it is actually in the fender

looks pretty good fordguy what made you go with a custom intake over the stock box or lets say roush or airaid for example

Well, i tried the drop in. Really didnt notice much change in sound or power. Then i put a cone filter on the end of the stock intake pipe. This worked pretty good and was free. It sounded nice and there was a small bunp in power. But the stock intake pipe leaves alot to be desired as far as flow properties go. Also, regarding aftermarket intakes....i felt there was too much beeing left on the table for the sake of ease of install, or them wanting to use parts already developed for the eb or gt.. i left nothing on the table with my intake....4"opening, a proper taper to maintain/build velocity as the air enters the TB, and minimal turns. Its also not limited to the inlet area of the stock snorkle like the roush, or airaid. The jlt is a clean sheet design and i like it but im cheap...and broke but i have time and skills lol. I desigbed the pipe to make as much power as it possibly could, and gave up some ease of install to make the most power possible. The filter is not confined to a box where flow is limited. And, because this is a composite intake it has a differnt sound that others. Its pretty wicked sounding. And i felt a small gain in power over my previous cobe filter setup

You did a great job with it. As far as the JLT goes, i saw it yesterday and it looks like a good design ( apperently a little harder to install) but i dont know about the claimed gains of 8 - 12 whp seems a bit high, i wish they had a dyno chart or something. Infact im really suprised no one seems to back up their products with dyno charts on this platform.

I'm getting confused here, fordguys550, did you just put a cone filter on the stock airbox? Did you mean that it has been acting like a CAI kit?

Pretty much. I removed the air box, used a piece of 3.5" mandrel bent pipe i had, and a 3.5" cone filter i had and put them in the place of the stock air box. Sounded pretty good, and there was a better gain in power than i felt with just a drop in. Now i have a custom made intake that i made myself.

I was hanging out on the EB forum and read a recomendation for a part from Airaid. It is just a tube that replaces the stock tube from the stock airbox to the throttle body. It eliminates the accordian effect in the stock piece and looks nice. Bad news, it is currently only prduced for the GT and EB, not the V6. It was recomended to be used with the Velossa Big Mouth and a green filter.
